A question for you fine people:
How far should societies go to help people? I'm a slight social liberal, which means I'm for limited welfare and oppose the death penalty, etc. etc. But this morning I saw something that triggered some irritation.

Scroll down a little and you'll read about how, despite the woman's doctor's disapproval, after nearly dying and being mutilated, she resumes smoking. A little more research will tell you smoking hinders circulation, thereby putting her new face at risk.
Take this a step further. How many times should we pay for a man's rehabilitation if he bounces in and out of drug treatment? How many times should we try to fix someone who continuously disobeys a doctor or the cops?

I think if you re-read you will see that when she mentions smoking, she is talking about what happened to her as to why she needed the op.

you either support it fully, ie. unconditionally, or not at all. if you treat someone once, you can't turn them away later.
