The young bouncer at the Green Flamingo is feisty, to be sure. Does he really know who I am or did someone tell him not to let any scruffy white dudes in? He must have been in middle school when I was leading the Dragons--I sure as hell don't remember him. I really want to avoid a scene, but I need to get to the jazz club's "private smoking lounge."
"How much do you make bouncing here?"
"Enough to keep you out."
"So you know who I am."
"I know you're not supposed to come in."
"So you're gonna let Lilly in, but I have to stay out here in the cold? What if she goes in and brings out someone else's ID for me?"
"Fuck you."
Great. How do I get in without causing a scene? I could kill this kid easily enough, but then I'd have to explain myself to everyone inside.
"Jack, let me go in by myself...I'll work this out."
Hmm...I'm worried about her leaving me now, but she wasn't asking for my permission. Man, that bouncer looks pissed. Cigarettes were invented for these kind of awkward situations.
"Hey man, you got a light?" His scowl says 'no,' but his muscles...well, they say 'no' as well. What is it with these kids today and their cornrows? Jeez, when I was younger it was all about the fade. Nice and clean, minimal maintenance...it used to be about short hair, now it's about long and convoluted hair. I wonder if would look too ridiculous with cornrows.
"Jack Desh--the J's will see you now."
Holy fuck! And I thought Ronzell was big! This mammoth gorilla makes the kid bouncer here look like Urkel. Leave it to the J's to find a mound of muscle like this guy to guard them. I bet he has trouble sitting being around them so often. The club looks the same as ever though. The large stage on one side of the dance floor, the huge bar on the other side. The eerie green flamingo in the window, shooting out its funky glow in all directions. Everything inside had a greenish tint to it, from the cigar smoke to the people puffing it out. It's like the living dead in here.
Just like it always was.
"Jack. It's been too long, bro."
Ah, the "Poker Room." Where all the town's underground gambling took place. Where some men used to come in with their life savings and leave without their souls. Okay, maybe that's a little too melodramatic. Bottom line is a very few guys came out with more money than when they came in. Most left with nothing. I used to serve drinks back here when I was really young, but I never got involved with the actual gambling. Shit was dangerous enough as it was. I would scout out cheaters, though. Brutal fates for those guys. So many sappy memories.
But now I'm dealing with these two gay jokers back here. They've partitioned off big section of the room for an office.
"Jimmy. James." A slight nod to each of these guys is more than fair, I think. My mind is still having trouble connecting them with Vin. I just don't get it.
"Jack, you should know that Lilly here has been informing us of your plans."
"What...Lilly, what the fuck?!?" Are they fucking kidding me? Was this woman fucking me over again?
"No, no. Jack, listen for a second. Before you jump to conclusions like you always have, just listen!"
"Right, I'll listen alright. I'll listen to you lie to me again and I'll listen to these butt busters tell me how they dumped my ass and joined Vin. Then what, they're gonna tell me how I'm gonna die?"
"Um, " Jimmy has a way of getting people's attention without a word. "Jack, it's not what you think. From what it sounds like, you wanted to see James and myself with the intent of killing us. But I personally find that a very silly thing to do."
"Of course you do! These bullets will hurt a little before you drop dead."
"No, asshole, it's not that. It's just...well, you want to kill us because you think we're working for Vin."
And now he stops talking. Fucking drama queen. This is infuriating--he's not gonna talk again until I respond to him. Fine--
"You're correct. And...?"
"Well, we're still working for you. As a matter of fact, there's a small army worth of people in this city that are looking to get rid of Vin...support our cause. We just need the right man to lead us."
"Oh."
Damn. I just wanted to kill a few more guys and call it a day. Now I have to save a city? Goddammit.

I already know the ending...I have a basic outline for how I'm gonna get there. It's really been at the back of my mind to finish this story.

Aye, it's been a while. I went back and skimmed through the first 12 so I could re-familiarize myself with it. Hopefully there are no contradictions.
Hopefully I can finish this off in a few more parts.
