Now that super bowl week has come and gone, and everyone has had a chance to reflect, I wonder about something.

I live in one of the suburbs of Detroit. The local media has gone on and on about how well the city pulled it off. I have heard mixed voices from media outside of Detroit, mostly good, a few bad, but not many. My trouble with the media is that they get paid to voice opinions and write critically about events, the game, the city, etc.

I know many local people who went downtown during the week, and everyone raved about how great the city looked and how nice it was to see so many people out and about downtown.

The problem I have is that the media can't always be trusted to be unbiased, and locals are used to downtown being dirty, abandoned, boring, scary, whatever.

What I really would like to hear is voices from real people who don't live near Detroit giving some feedback as to their impression of our city. There is talk of putting the D into the rotation of cities that get the Super Bowl, but I have only heard that from local media. The other thing I hear at great lengths is how much better Detroit did than Jacksonville last year.

I do realize it is cold here, and we got some snow the night before, but c'mon, it's Michigan.

Did anyone make it here for the festivities?

hmm except that it was still daylight here and you're either in the same time zone or an hour behind

Where is here for you, loki? Detroit is eastern time zone. If you are west of me, it gets dark a little later, until you get to the next time zone. For example, NYC is in the same zone as me, nut it gets darker earlier because it is farther east.

I thought it looked nice in the shots of the city. There was this one thing though, when the game first came on they showed the city skyline and it was dark - you know like it is when the sun goes down and the buildings are all aglow with light pollution.

The thing is, it was what 6:00? I looked outside because I thought it was possible that I was losing it and nope still light out. Then I thought that Detroit may or may not be an hour behind us, but I'm still pretty sure that considering that the bright yellow sun comes up in the east and sets in the west, it should have still been light out.

then I forgot about it until just now
-------------------------

Here it gets dark as early as 5:30 in the end of December. 6:00 sounds about right for the Super Bowl.

Yeah... superbowl sucked this year. Too many bad calls and such. I didn't really pay attention to what Detroit looked like.

I don't have any thoughts on Detroit, except that it's cold and it pretty much sucks ass there. The Superbowl was lame this year too. Meh.

All I know was that I was in Pittsburgh when it all went down.

All I'll say was that there were couches in the middle of the road.....

On fire.

And lots of drunk naked chicks. And riot police. And overturned cars. And people hanging from windows. And ripped-off side-view mirrors. And Steelers flags.....

The list goes on.

I live in a suburb of Detroit (and was born and raised in the city) and I could give a fuck less about what any out-of-towners think about it...

There's no place like home

I live in Chicago, only a few hours away from Detroit, and I ain't going back there ever again. I saw a Detroit cabbie on TV get asked the question, "Where do you go for a good time in Detroit?" His response was, "Windsor."

what are you, gay?

Anyway, we'd like to thank you for the occasional moments of peace and

happened. Oh, Lord, be honest. Are we the most pathetic family in
the universe, or what?
