Classical liberalism (also called classic liberalism or simply liberalism) is the original form of, and is today a tendency within, liberalism. It is a political school of thought that first emerged in the 17th and 18th centuries, upholding individualism and free market economics. Classical liberalism focuses on concepts of individual autonomy and private property, and argues that the sole legitimate function of government is to defend these. Classical liberals promote the use of precisely delineated constitutions that are difficult or impossible to modify, intended to prevent governments from assuming an interventionist role.

If I had to label my politics the above best represents my political beliefs. I despise both the Republican and Democratic parties (with a few exceptions). Of these two parties I can usually get behind some Republican politics, the Democrats do not have any convictions about anything other than getting votes. I have no blind allegiance to any man or political system, and despite being a Christian I also think that the Christian right political movement is too easily led, gullible, and just as misled as the extreme left .

Initially after 9/11 I thought that GWB had the right idea. I honestly believed that he understood the threat of radical Islam, and I completely supported the invasion of Afghanistan. Then the idea of the Iraq war came up, and I couldn't get behind this one so much. Sure Sadaam and his sons were despots of the worse kind, but even though he had weapons of mass destruction I did not think he would use them (yes he did have WMD I would bet my life that they are in Syria). I had to take the naïve view that there had to be some strategic advantage to having troops in the ground in Iraq, even if I could not initially see it. After all I am all for protecting the US from another 9/11.

The one thing that started to bug me immediately after the invasion of Afghanistan was that our borders were still porous and this did not make sense to me. Why make all of these security policies but not shut down the borders? I have nothing against Pedro the day laborer coming into this country to support his family, but there are ways to make this happen with a secure border. After all place an Arab terrorist who would do us harm onside a Mexican day laborer, dress them the same, tell them not to speak, stand from 30 feet away, and tell me the difference in the two. It became glaringly obvious that the demand for cheap labor in this country far outweighs our need for security. This infuriated me. Why send my brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters to go bleed for this country when we do nothing at home to secure our borders.

Its only been downhill from there. This administration has managed to get us bogged down in Iraq, spending billions of dollars and for what? Did anyone in this administration learn anything from the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan? So here we are our military stretched, our national deficit is absolutely ridiculous, and the only people really making money are the oil companies and defense contractors. Our borders are open and unprotected, our soldiers are dying at a rate of 2 a day, and as a result the country of Iran has been emboldened and intend on acquiring nuclear weapons.

I turn on the news today and learn that a company from the United Arab Emirates are poised to buy 6 major US ports. What the hell? Why would we sell our ports to anyone ever? So here we are bogged down in unending wars, under the threat of a nuclear Iran, apparently fine with the fact that Russia is selling Iran arms, and one misstep away from economic collapse. Is all of this the fault of the GWB administration? Of course not, it's the fault of the American people for accepting sub par leaders for far too long.

t doesn't matter who you elect - America will be run by the corporations until people stop allowing their actions to be dictated by whats convenient rather than whats right

I agree with you here, much reform is needed in our political process. Especially in the realm of campaign contributions.

Have you not heard him speak? I wouldn't bet on him even knowing what day it is.

You only pasted half of the sentence, and subsequently have taken it out of context.

Steolav, try to mate with someone that's NOT in your bloodline.

How in the fuck can you compare Hitler to America, Bush, or any person for that matter? The only person at par with Hitler was Stalin, and he was far worse. Go fuck yourself, and die.

Agreed. All too often, the problems that face our country are unfairly blamed on the current president in office.. For instance, the economy takes four to five years to get into effect after changes are made. Because a president's term is only 4 years, all too often the next president in line takes the hit for it. I agree that our country is facing a lot of problems, but everyone is misguided in blaming it on Bush.

Right every wrong, house the homeless, set it up to perpetuate this ideal status, and it'll all go back to the hell it is.

So what's wrong? There's not enough beer gardens.

I'm not the biggest W fan, but to lump him in with Adolph doesn't exactly sit well with me.

I'm going to go -2 all of your posts. Again.

causing more crimes than it's been preventing?

Homer: Oh, Kent, I'd be lying if I said my men weren't committing crimes.
