http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/france-knows-nuclear-club-is-place-to-be/2006/02/12/1139679477037.html
--------

"President of France, Jacques Chirac said that France would consider using nuclear weapons against any country that supported a major terrorist attack against it. But he did promise he'd only nuke it a little bit"

I mean I'm not exactly some kind if nuclear technician or anything like that, but don't nuclear warheads kinda go off with a boom?

"We should not have to choose between inaction and obliteration ... The flexibility and reactivity of our strategic [nuclear] forces should allow us to respond against its power centres, against its capacity to act." said Chirac

Oh, good. For a minute it sounded as if Chirac was planning to obliterate any country he suspected of sponsoring a terrorist attack against France, but no. He would only nuke their "power centres" and their "capacity to act".

I mean I never jumped on the France-bashing train but having the President come out and say something like that isn't exactly a great way to reflect the intellect of the people in control of a country....but then again there isn't quite anything like a nuclear holocaust is there?

Sounds like France is being rational and forceful, for a change - how refreshing

I find this particulary interesting and I somewhat commend him for having a set a balls first and being politically correct second. In all honesty, you are right in the fact that it is a pretty silly thing to say, however, if lines aren't clearly drawn now what's to say can and can't happen in the future.

You would get credit if you hadn't just copy/pasted bits from the article. If you had put your own opinion, it'd be a 0.

France is just talking. Europe would never allow France to nuke anyone, they want to sound big and bad so as to scare off people who don't realize that France would never be able to make good on that threat.

I have mixed feelings. I'd want to nuke a country that wanted to kill me; but perhaps it's not very wise to come right out and say it.
