Le comité d'experts du journal chargé de divulguer ces allégeances affirme qu'en 2000-2001, les moins de 17 ans ne constituaient que 8,4% des étudiants dans des centres de formation professionnelles. Tant qu'à eux, les moins de 18 ans ne constituaient que 20,2% des étudiants dans les CFP. Par ailleurs, les données du rapport du Comité d'experts dénombrait que presque 60% des étudiants de 18-25 ans avaient déjà fréquenté soit un cégep ou une université. On dénombre tout près de 88000 étudiants et étudiantes qui étudient en formation professionnelle au Québec.
Bien entendu, au départ, cela n'était pas réellement prévu. De plus en plus, la dénatalité fait en sorte que les adultes reviennent sur les bancs d'école et cela s'aperçoit beaucoup dans les régions. En ce sens, quelque 16% des 350 000 adultes fréquentant un établissement public d'enseignement au Québec (ils sont 30 000 dans les CFP) ont en commun d'être retournés aux études par la filière d'Emploi Québec et des centres locaux d'emploi (CLE). C'est l'arrivée de ces programmes qui a permis aux adultes d'envahir les CFP et de se pencher sur leur avenir en intégrant un programme de formation qui leur convenait.
La présence massive de ces adultes dans les centres de formation professionnelle constitue-t-elle un mal en soi ? Voir un adulte et un jeune formant équipe et s'entraidant mutuellement lors de l'apprentissage de certaines notions montre, même s'ils sont dans une classe à part, comment ils peuvent avoir des buts similaires ; la réussite de leurs études. La société évolue et de plus en plus la formation fera partie de notre quotidien, et ce, tout au long de notre vie. On ne peut y échapper.
