In reference to the below comment. I agree with your Punk Musical History, however there are variations of the word punk, the diversity is a testement to the attitude itself.

Punk kicked off around 1974-76 (The Ramones, Sex Pistols, the Damned, the Clash, etc.) followed by a second wave in 1977 (Stiff Little Fingers, Black Flag, CRASS etc.)
Hardcore punk came onto the scene in the US in the early 80s, including bands such as The Descendants, Minor Threat, NoMeansNo, Dead Kennedys, The Vandals, The Germs, and Bad Religion.
Many, many years on ('91), a band called Nirvana had huge success with an album called Nevermind. HARDCORE Punk (rather than "pure punk") INFLUENCED, they never referred to themselves as punk, rather they belonged to the Grunge movement. Grunge was influenced by Punk, but also Thrash, and was regarded as a natural response to the dominance of 'Hair Metal'. Nirvana was one of the main bands that brought Grunge to the public, along with Alice in Chains, Soundgarden etc.
Nirvana is not punk. If you would like more information, I refer you to the following bands: Conflict, Crass, SLF, NoMeansNo, and the Subhumans.

Here's the difference.
I don't Like Nirvana when they were underground, and then hate Nirvana because they became popular.
I've NEVER liked Nirvana.
Ever.
Don't like the music.
Don't like the vocals.
Dave Grohl is the only good thing to COME from Nirvana.
And if you notice, I wasn't attacking the music itself, I'm attacking the pole-smoking of the people who listened to it.

Another member of the "27 club" who, even alongside Hendrix and to a degree Morrison, was the most seminal of all in taking music in a new direction, whether I liked Nirvana or not.
I don't think it was a crap post when considered beside the serious crap on most heated, for instance, hence +2 for an ok post. The center photo of Kurt holding Francis Bean is priceless.
