"I love this song," Jenny thought to herself, turning up the volume of the car radio. Something about it was very exciting. It should probably be in a movie. Maybe it is and I just don't know it, she said aloud. She wondered if it was that Moby guy. It sounded like him.
Ah, Christ. She looked in the rear view mirror at the flashing police lights behind her. They've resorted to trying to run me off the road now. Son of a bitch. I can't stop though. I can't stop. Not enough time to stop.
This was all HIS fault, of course. Stupid asshole. Where was he now? Probably out with his friends somewhere. What a jerk. That's how it always is. Sure, they'll be around for the fun, but when things get rough, they're nowhere to be found. Fucking men.
She groaned in pain and put her hand on her stomach, trying to maintain control of the car. Why do we do this to ourselves? What makes us put ourselves through this? She laughed to herself. You'd think by now we'd have figured it out and put a stop to this nonsense.
Through everything happening now...the chase, the pain, the rain making the roads even more dangerous, the song was getting to her, fueling her somehow:
Extreme ways are back again
Extreme places I didn't know
I broke everything new again
Everything that I'd owned
I threw it out the windows, came along
Extreme ways I know, will part
The colors of my sea
Perfect color me
Extreme ways that help me
They help me out late at night
Extreme places I had gone
But never seen any light
Dirty basements, dirty noise
Dirty places coming through
Extreme worlds alone
Did you ever like it planned
I would stand in line for this
There's always room in life for this
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Like it always does, always does
I had to close down everything
I had to close down my mind
Too many things to cover me
Too much can make me blind
I've seen so much in so many places
So many heartaches, so many faces
So many dirty things
You couldn't even believe
"Damn," she said. That's a moving song. She tried to imagine herself on a dance floor, dancing to it, instead of doing THIS. She swerved a little to avoid a squirrel, then laughed. "I'm going crazy. This is no time to be worrying about squirrels."
The pain intensified and she moaned. Nothing for it though. Have to keep going. Not far to go now. I sure hope those assholes don't crash me.
The police could occassionaly see her laughing and thought she was either on drugs or drunk. Except that she wasn't swerving much. Damn kids, the cop directly behind her said to his partner. He just nodded in response, nervous by the chase.
There it was! Just a couple of blocks away now. She was almost there. She screetched in apprehension. Finally, she shot her car directly into a hedge near the entrance of the building, stumbled out, fell to the ground and blacked out.
Jenny woke up, she didn't know how much later, in a bed in a dark room. She waited. She was patient. She felt her stomach and froze, numb with terror. She started screaming then. Loudly. A woman in white came rushing into the room.
"Calm down honey. Everything is ok. Everything is fine. Don't worry, don't worry. You're just lucky you made it here. The police dropped all charges once they figured out what the problem was. Unfortunatly, there were some complications, and we had to perform an emergency C-section, but the baby is fi....."
Another nurse walked in, carrying a newborn little girl. She handed the child to Jenny, who felt herself to be on the verge of tears.
"Oh my god," she said. "Oh my god. Look at you. Oh my god." The little girl had a shock of bright auburn hair.
"Have you thought of a name for her yet," the nurse asked.
Jenny asked what day it was.
"It's Saint Patricks day, honey."
Jenny smiled. Ah, she thought. The luck of the Irish.
"Cathan," she said. "Her name is Cathan."

I really liked the story as a concept.
I have some issues with the dialogue and how it's presented, and I think that the lyrics to the Moby song pulled me out of the story for a while.
Good stuff, though.

I knew that. I have family in the hills in Tennesee, The McGee's, and one of them is named Cathan. She explained it to me once when we were kids, then proceded to beat the shit out of me to prove it.
Not a name I'd forget.

I! CAN NOT! WAIT!!! for the return of the Shamrock Shake at McDonalds.
OR for the Dropkick Murphys St. Patricks day shows in Boston. It'll be amazing. I'd even go see most of the openers if they were on tour as a stand-alone act.

I did enjoy it though. Thinking it over, it's definitely at LEAST 1.5 material.

Yeah. Well I wrote it in about 5 minutes so I'm sure there are all kinds of flaws with it. It was fun though.

Good....
But it had some semantic issues that held it back.
