There is an episode of South Park that depicts the Virgin Mary bleeding. Big deal? Nope? I didn't think so either. I'm one of those hideous people who believe in God and go to church, but hearing about this particular episode of South Park doesn't worry me. However, over here in NZ, a bunch of religious people got together and decided that it shouldn't be aired, it was degrading and sacrilegious, and we're all going to hell for being in NZ if it goes to air.
Long story short, Canwest, who owns that particular TV channel, moved it forward and it screened last night. *Pinches self, still appear to be alive and not burning in the fiery pits of hell* Now all the religious nuts are going to complain to the Broadcasting Standards Authority, they're going to boycott Canwest (who own a whole bunch of radio stations and half the TV channels here) and write letters to the editor, and generally rant about it.
http://xtramsn.co.nz/entertainment/0,,12255-5437621,00.html
Now I'm confused because if the religious nuts hadn't brought this up, and publicised it so much, I wouldn't have known about it. No one would have known about it. Canwest would have screened it as per normal, the normal selection of South Park enthusiasts would have watched it, and no one would have cared less. But due to their rants, every one watched it, it'll be the main topic of conversation in schools everywhere today.
I think people are being overly sensitive, starting with the now infamous cartoons that the Muslims kicked up a stink about. Now all the religious nutters are getting so upset about this Soutb Park Episode. I'm beginning to wonder, is it me that's wrong? Should I get more upset when someone offends me or what I believe in? Should I condemn them all to the fiery pits of hell? Am I letting people have too much fun, is there too much freedom of speech? Should the media be monitored by the government to decide what we should and shouldn't see? Am I a part of a small minority who understands that at some point, everyone is going to be the butt of some one's joke, and to skate it off?
I know this subject has been done to death lately, but it just makes me so angry when someone thinks they have the right to decide what we should see. If it offends me, I'll turn it off, I'll walk away.
On a side note, NZ government likes to do things like this all the time. They are going to increase the tax on cigarettes- AGAIN - to encourage people to stop smoking. They drafted a bill to create a 'fat tax' to put a higher tax on fatty foods to encourage people to stop buying them. They even were going to introduce a 'methane tax'.... That's right, a FART TAX to reduce methane emissions to slow the deterioration of the ozone. (Mostly aimed at cow farmers etc, but.... A fart tax?)

You actually don't need faith to believe in evolution, we have fossil records and DNA analysis that takes the place of faith.

I guess that's what religion is all about, blind faith. To believe in whatever you want to believe, whatever makes sense to you- you need faith to believe in God, Muhummad, evolution- whatever it is that floats your boat.

I can't remember now who it was that had that little belief proof, Descartes maybe but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Newton.
Newton thought he was Jesus Christ, hey his birthday was on Dec 25 so it must be true.
In theory, an all knowing God wouldn't fall for that anyway because your intent wouldn't be pure.
And as for the end times, according to my grandfather, when his grandfather was little people were claiming that we were in the end times. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in it.
get it "faith" come on that's a pretty good pun

They are idiots.
But at least they aren't burning down the station. Or calling for Mat Parker and Trey Stone to be killed.
Nobody like religious fanatics, but it is important to keep your eye on who the real nuts are.
Mormons.

I'm not a big expert in Judaism or Islam, but the main Christian value that Jesus taught was to love one another and turn the other cheek.
Seems to me these hardXcore fanatics don't abide by that at all.
Can't we all just get along? Who cares if someone airs a show that you don't agree with?
Don't watch it!

Ha ha I probably shouldn't say this but I heard about Sir Isaac Newton's theory on christianity and I kinda liked it.
What are the odds? There are 4 possible outcomes.
1)You believe in God, and therefore heaven and hell, you die, no God, who cares, you're dead.
2)You don't believe in God, he doesn't exist, you die, who cares, you're dead.
3)You believe in God, you die, he does exist, you go to heaven.
4)You don't believe in God,you die, he does exist, you burn in hell for eternity.

Meh, I don't do the whole religion thing at all but if I did believe any of that bullshit, I'd say we're all going to hell anyway so why not enjoy ourselves and do all we can to piss off god? He's sending us to hell after all, it's the least we can do.
Seriously though, is being spiteful and vengeful supposed to be a sin? I don't remember.

Yeah if you read the bible it says in Revelation all the signs and that the end is near- I'll just keep on being me, keep on going to church and doing the God thing, I leave other people to make their own decisions.

Loki, I didn't know about the Disney thing, it's ridiculous, Canwest (I think it's Canadian owned, which will please some people around here) owns most of NZ media, do these people realise that is they don't watch TV3 and TV4, they'll probably still listen to one of their radio stations.
Umm I don't think that episode of South park was that great, I didn't find it funny (I like the Mongolian episode where they build a 'shitty wall'.... awesome...) basically a statue of the virgin Mary starts bleeding and they invite in a specialist and he says that she's menstruating, women do that.....
I suppose it is insulting, but thats just what South Park does. C'mon, cripple fights and Token...?

You're going to see much more of this as time passes.
The fact of the matter is...religion of all kinds is dying - slowly being replaced with a soulless consumerism and TV star worship. These people are the new messiahs, and money is our ultimate savior.
This is all traced back to the dollar. Funny thing is, shows like South Park take efforts to ridicule and point out these facts as well, but THOSE episodes go unnoticed by the people who are offended by their other, religiously-charged shows.
Don't worry. If Christianity is correct - which I'm always on the fence about - you're probably looking at the end times RIGHT NOW.
Here's why: http://www.ubersite.com/m/84205
Still don't believe me? Wait till Iran decides to switch to euro-dollars for oil.
Wait till this year's North Atlantic hurricane season shows us what global warming can REALLY do!
I'm sick of warning people about this shit, so I'll just let God do the talking.

There is just something funny to me about someone from NZ using the phrase "skate it off".
Have you heard about the Disney boycotts here in the US? I can't remember now exactly why, something about them having ghey and lesbo day or something but for a while there all the right wing ah what was that word you used nutters declared that they were going to boycott. The problem is that Disney is really the only company that pumps out kid's movies and if you look at their whole corporation, you'd have to boycott ABC, ESPN, and who the fuck knows what all. I think they eventually gave up.
I imagine that this will eventually blow over, but then I haven't seen the episode. Was it really offensive? By that I mean if you were sensitive to this sort of thing would you have been offended, you know more than normal? We're talking about a show that intentionally used the word "shit" some record number of times just to prove a point to the FCC and then there was that whole Sadam - Satan affair and let's not forget sucky sucky. Oh yea, this is not exactly a quality family show is it.
