for some time i've been conscious of the anti cutting and pasting mentality here.

it came to the foreground of my mighty brain last night.

some one called smack fuck had showered me with praise on one of my brilliant posts, so naturally, even though it was probably sarcastic, i went to investigate him or her.

it seems he or she is some kind of old user under another name, and they seem heartilly disliked. perhaps there are shadowy reasons from the past for this, but one objection people have to him or her now is the pasting of articles rather than 'original' submissions.

i read a couple of the articles smack fuck posted and they were very interesting to read. far more than the usual 'original' posts.

(have you noticed i keep putting original in inverted commas? can you guess why? the majority of posts may have been typed by the fingers of an uber shmuck, but there is not often that much originality about them - particularly those posts that attempt serious fiction or political analysis etc)

some cunt said that pasting articles wasn't appropriate because this is a 'ratings' site. well surely we all know that's bullshit. the ratings play a role, a weird and twisted role, and they help make ubersite the madhouse it is, but they are not the be all and end all. essentialy uber is an interaction site, and the commentary and discussion attached to the post is often the main point.

so an interesting, unusual, well-written article that has the potential to interest and enlighten, and provoke a better than average discussion is surely worthwhile. i've often though about posting good short stories by writers that the average cunt onhere would not have seen or heard of, but haven't been bothered because i am too apathetic.

anyway, it seems to me the whole anti cut and paste thing is just another example of the uber herd mentality at its most moronic. if there was a plague of cutting and pasting, if every day the front page was overrun with them, i could understand objections. but that is an unlikely scenario, as most of us are driven by egotistical motiviations that don't involve posting other people's work.

adding a few comments re the pasted material is probably a good idea, granted. though that can also be done in the discussion.

i would be quite happy to see 10% of uber posts as cut and pastes of good material.

and, you never know, exposing the illiterate masses to such stuff might actually raise the standards here.
