When are you going skiing? We went to Beech last Sunday and it was fucking awful up there. It was cold as shit, but had been warm enough the previous week so that all the snow had melted and then froze to a nice icy glaze. They were blowing snow, but the wind was so strong that all the fresh powder was ending up in the surrounding valleys and not so much on the slopes.
When I say the wind was strong, I mean that I was heading straight down the Shawneehaw run (racing Sam truth be told) and when I rounded the turn from the upper to the lower slope, the wind hit me and I actually stopped STOPPED. I had to tuck like the real skiers do to get any speed.
It sucked because just one week earlier it had been amazing.
The only good thing about it is that if you can ski up there on ice, when you go out west, you discover that you are a better skier than you thought. It's just that it's too expensive to ski when it's crap.
But it snowed up there last night so it's probably better now. I'm going to Snowshoe in a couple of weeks and fear for the slopes.
