I doubt I will ever have kids. It is not that I do not like them. It is just that I see how they can turn out and it scares the ever-living shit out of me.

I would love to think that I would be a wonderful parent who takes their children out for ice cream and sits down with them in the park watching the trees sway in the wind while explaining the game of life. Giving little bits of wisdom that will never be forgotten and one day pass on to their children who will in turn pass on to theirs. The kind of kid that during their valedictorian speech upon leaving some Ivy League school explains the only reason they got where they are that day is because of me. That is what every man and woman dreams of, wishes for.

But in reality I will probably be sitting on my couch watching the real world XXXIII while my kid is screaming at me to change it to HBO's second installment of "'Pimps' Than life of tha game."

I barely have the patience to pay attention to my wife. And that is only because I pause whatever I am watching when she starts talking about something or other.

I pass by men and women walking down the street with their children in tow screaming and crying. And I ask in my mind, "Why god, do you let these people procreate?" Or I see these 13 year olds with tattoos and piercing terrorizing old women and other children and wonder how parents can allow their children to do that. Then I think back to how I was the same exact way when I was that age. My parents tried everything to make me a good respectful kid. But I would not have it. I love them so much but I disappointed them and hurt them more than any parent deserves or can handle. And I regret it everyday of my life.

I understand why people have children. I know it will be the most fulfilling thing in your life. But it might also end up being the most disappointing.

So even though a lot of me thinks having a kid would be cool. I will respect my parents and the rest of the world by not having them.

So instead trying, and very possibly, raising intelligent successful kids, you'd rather sit around and do nothing out of fear of your own (possible) failures?

I feel sorry for you. I really do.

I read that bit where you said you'd disappointed and hurt your parents when you were younger. My son is 13, and although I am trying everything to keep him on the straight and narrow he seems to be hellbent on getting into trouble. He's got one more chance at school, and if he messes up again he's out. Sure, he disappoints me, and I worry myself stupid about how he will get through this phase, but I still love him. I think being a good parent is the hardest thing in the world, because you can't make your kids think like you do, they have their own personalities.

I am more afraid I would give up than be disappointed. All I wanted when I was that age is for my parents to leave me alone. But when they finally did I chastized them for not caring about me. It is a double edged sword my friend. I wish you luck. And if all else fails go fishing with him and let him drink. He will open up and as long as you do not judge him everything will go good and you can make it a monthly thing. If you can build that bond he will at least look up to you.

Kids suck.

Bad Parents=Bad Kids, Bad Kids=Bad Parents

Why bother trying? Haven't met a single child in the last 10 years that's worth a flying shit. They all feel like they're 'entitled'. Has the term 'WORK' lost all meaning to our youth? They're given everything and feel that it's somehow owed to them. And if you don't give it to them, they'll fucking steal it or die trying.

Fuck em'.

While I agree with some of the other sentiments about making choices based on fear of failure lack of self-confidence, I applaud the choice you have apparently made. There are already significantly more people in the world that it can support in the long term.

This is bullshit. You just need to man up and get a job. Stop fucking about with your bleeding guitar, stop going out and getting wasted and learn to take responsibility. Maybe then you'll be able to conduct yourself with a little dignity.

That's exactly what I'd say to Bob Dylan if I ever met him.

I'd prod him in the chest and demand he talk properly and stop mumbling. Him and Van Morrison.

Talk properly Bobby!

Bad kids = bad parents? I don't entirely agree with that statement, but certainly bad parents = bad kids.

People need to take responsibility for their kids and it seems to easy to duck it and say 'oh i think i'd be a bad parent.'

Look at the mistakes others do. Don't do them.

Not saying you should get someone pregnant tomorrow or anything, but parenthood changes people.

I am going to use this post in the future as an insult for people. 'Don't breed - here are the reasons for it.'

I don't agree, but this was worth reading.
