Saturday I drove to Chicago to meet my imaginary friends, coming from Madison WI this is about a two and half hour drive. When I told people why I was going I received many different reactions. One of my friends seems to live in a sheltered state of existence, never taking risks, and called me downright stupid for planning on staying at some guy's house I'd never met before. Other friends gave me the obligatory nerd scorn for meeting "internet friends". My family knows that I'm pretty spontaneous and self sufficient, they didn't really have much to say one way or the other. Finally, my reaction was a little mixed. I was looking forward to meeting scourge as he's currently one of the finalists in the Shamrock Open ©: http://www.ubersite.com/m/85153. I was also looking forward to meeting MyTee as I've read several of his posts. On the other hand, I was on my way to meet internet strangers, for all I knew they could have been axe murderers.
I got to Chicago at about 5:30. My turn signals weren't working and anyone who's driven in a big city with tolls can imagine that it was a little frustrating trying to merge without the blinkers. To add to my frustration I realized I'd left the map and directions to MyTee's on my desk at home. I called MyTee several times before finally finding my way to his place.
MyTee met me at the gate leading up to his apartment; we introduce ourselves and headed inside. I knew Hilarity_Ensues was coming. I've read in one of her posts that she was tall. I can admit I might have been expecting her to look like some form of deformed yeti. I was surprised to find she was not as tall as I'd gathered from her posts nor was she a yeti; she was in fact quite cute.
We got the intros out of the way and something I really didn't expect happened. Hanging out with MyTee and Hilarity lacked any real awkwardness; it was easy, like meeting old friends. We walked to the train station, hopped on the El, and made our way downtown.
The first place we went was Paizanos (I know I butchered the spelling on that one). The food was good, the beer was good, and the company was great. We met scourge there, we'd been waiting for him for a little while when I turned and saw a guy walking toward us like he knew us.
Sorry, I won't be able to finish this as I'd intended as work is a little nuts. I wanted to detail our adventure as it was a fun night of drunken tom foolery including messing with cab drivers, scourge yelling "NEEDS MORE RAPE" at the band in one bar, playing with a soccer ball in a supermarket and getting dirty looks from the staff, and lots of drinks.
My first internet stranger meeting probably could not have been better. Hilarity's hot and everyone was cool. I have to say that the bar has been set pretty high for Ubercon Chicago in July cause this trip whooped the llama's ass.

Schlong, this is more than just a moathong now. These people are now special friends of mine.
