For spring break this year my 8 year old step daughter came to visit us. Since we don't have much around the house that will keep an 8 year old distracted from destroying everything we own, I decided to go online & look for some puzzles to print out & give to her. My first stop was at the school puzzle section at discovery.com http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/

I had no trouble finding some puzzles & games for her to play with & began printing them out. After a while I guess I started really paying attention to the ads that were on the borders of the screen & that's when I got a bit weirded out. The site is gearded towards young kids in that it is trying to make learning fun, so why does this site have a large military recruitment ad? It's kind of disturbing to think that the military is activly trying to get into kids heads at such a young age. I want my 8 year old step-daughter to be thinking about her school, friends & family - not thinking about the best way to start fighting of invaders. Am I nuts to think that's just a little bit creepy?

When I was 8 I wanted to bomb France. Little has changed, except now I'd shout 'merde' as I pushed the button.

Don't be selfish. Your daughter belongs to the world.

when you were eight, did you pay attention to any ads that didn't relate to toys or snacks? no? what makes you think your stepdaughter would?

also, g-prime's comment made me laugh out loud.

I didn't get the impression that you are anti-military per se, just anti-recruitment-of-8-year-olds.

Which I suppose I am too.

You fool. That is exactly what the military is for.

No, you're nuts to think anybody would try to invade the U.S.
