It feels like Christmas eve for me right now. For all of us who have been waiting over the winter for tommorow to arrive I say to you that it is back!

Baseball has returned!!

The World Baseball Classic was fun to watch but in no way compares to what starts tommorow.

Sox/Indians
Cubs/St Louis
Yanks/Red Sox
Dodgers/Giants

Soon enough every rivalry that we are looking forward to will play out. Even the steriod scandal can't take away from the fact that spring has arrived and for the next 7 months we have the comfort of turning on the TV, listening to the raido or attending a game. We can look forward to grabbing a beer and a dog.....smelling the grass....hearing the national anthem and seeing the boys of summer do what they do best.

Everyone except for a few teams (KC, Flordia, Baltimore and the Reds) have a decent shot of making things interesting. Thats the beauty of it. A little kid in Pittsburgh will go to his first game this season and cheer on his Pirates and NEVER forget it for the rest of his life. Friends will go to Angels Stadium to cheer on thier Angels in hopes of someone cracking one into the waterfall in center. A teenager will go on his first date nervous as hell and get his first kiss because it is fireworks night. Sox fans (me) will go to US Cellular with the dream of their Sox repeating what they did last year. A young child in little league from one of the bouroughs will go to the shrine of baseball (Yankees Stadium) with the hopes and dreams of being able to one day be like A-Rod. A Cubs fan will go Wrigley in the hopes of not seeing another futile year from the Cubbies (Well....more like going there to talk on their cell phone and be seen but thats besides the point).

Point is that BASEBALL IS BACK!!!

ENJOY!!

Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Baseball is so boring. Just watch the highlights in the news. Or get pissed drunk at the games... but that costs you an arm and a leg... -2

I found out that not only do I get to take my niece to Opening Day tomorrow for the second year in a row, my DAD is actually taking time off to go to his first ever Rockies Opening Day.

(He used to take me to old Zephyrs OD's before the got MLB.)

Man, it's a holiday for me.
I haven't missed a sinlge Rockies OD, and I made 7 straight Zephyrs/Bears OD's before that... SO damn, that's like 19-20 in a row... I'll go get my duffel ready now...

Ah yes....

Spring. Birds singing. Rain. And the return of baseball, the world's most boring sport. Ever.

Go Jays. Maybe this year you'll be able to talk about baseball in Toronto without feeling embarassed.

At least they'll do better than the Leafs this year. Although it's still not hockey.

Homer: Ooh, look at this one! The Hammer of Thor! (Reading) "It
will send your pins to ... Valhalla?" Lisa?

Lisa: Valhalla is where vikings go when they die.

Homer: Ooh, that's some ball.
