As I ran forwards down the road towards the cliff, gripped in the paws of fear, I threw a desperate glance over my shoulder. There he was, well perhaps, there it was. Jogging along nonchalantly, big grin on those over white teeth, eye sockets staring blindly ahead. I'm being chased by a two-dimensional, cartoon, death. Everything else is 3d and real. I whip my head back around and continue to run as fast as I can towards the bridge.

Ahead of me lays the edge of a cliff, a large unsupported bridge, which spans away into the far distance and eventually completes at another cliff. The road i'm on continues over the bridge and the bridge also has white picket fence style railings along either side. Down below the bridge at the bottom of the cliff lies a vast expanse of water that, if I was to apply some thought of logic to the scene before me was far to big to be covered by a bridge, regardless, that is what was there. In the water at the bottom of the cliff is a huge holiday ferry/liner type ship.

As I speed towards the bridge at the last minute I make the decision that I will jump. My legs propel me over the cliff edge to the left of the bridge and I fall, in a semi-controlled way, towards the top deck of the ship. I land on the deck and a quick glance behind me confirms my continued pursuit.

The deck of the ship is concrete and there are many holidaymakers lounging around or walking from place to place in the sun enjoying themselves. Ignoring all of this, focused only on my escape I run. Down a hatch, through corridors, down stairwells. All the time still being chased by this two dimensional figure that looks similar to how I imagine Terry Pratchett's evil twin - should he have had one - would have visualised the discworld's Death.

I dive through a doorway and slam the door behind me, frantically spinning the locking mechanism I hear Death thump into the other side of the metal. I turn and survey the room. I'm in what appears to be some kind of cockpit, machines and gadgets cover the walls. A large window/screen covers the far wall. In the centre of the room is a chair with a control panel to its right and a joystick in front of it. (For some reason flight of the navigator springs to mind)

I jump in the chair and notice a large red button on the control panel to the right labelled 'Dive'.
I hit the button and suddenly a number of loud metal clangs reverberate the ship around me, on the screen in front of me I see metal sheeting sliding down to clamp into place, eventually covering the entire ship, not dissimilar to the shell of an armadillo.

The joystick in front of me lights up, the window - that I now can't see out of - lights up and becomes a display of what I could see should the shutters not have come over. I push the joystick forward. The ship tilts forward and starts to dive smoothly downwards. Death bangs on the door behind me.

Out of the screen I can see the cliff descending into the murky depths below. Along it lay two lines of what appear to be rope, separated with buoys at equal distances. Somehow I know that the left one goes down to a depth of three miles, the right, well the right goes all the way. I turn the joystick to the left...

I'm running towards the cliff again. Back where I started. Being chased by that cartoon nightmare. Again.

I take the same path, the same features exist. I jump, I land, I run. I enter the cockpit and Death slams into the door, as before. This time however, I'm not alone. The captain is there (well that is the assumption I make from his uniform). He teases me about attempting to steal his ship. He tells me how this is no ordinary ship and how, since I'm here, I ought to have a go at driving it. (Driving was his word not mine)

I sit in the chair again, I hit the dive button. He stops me. He tells me that we don't need the shutters if we don't go far down. Gently I push the joystick forwards and the ship descends. Quickly I level us out and then rise back to the surface feeling unsafe. I descend again. This happens two or three times before I feel comfortable enough to continue. I descend again and this time with no shutters down I can see everything underwater much more brightly. The ropes still descend the cliff face, marked with buoys, to the same depths as before. I go for an enjoyable drive underwater exploring a little...

I'm running towards the cliff again. The same things happen. I reach the cockpit. Death slams into the door. This time I'm alone again. I sit, hit the button. The shutters enclose us. I push the joystick. The ship tilts as if to dive like expected, then violently rights itself refusing to go down. I try again with the same response. Try as I might I cannot get the ship to descend. In frustration I get up...

I'm running towards the cliff again. Death chases me. I stop. I turn round. Death runs towards me his grin enlarging as he closes on me. I pull a postcard out of my back pocket. Closing one eye I hold it up so that it covers the sight of Death from me. He is trapped in the postcard. Reaching into my other back pocket I pull out a phone book, open it, slide the postcard in-between two of the centre pages, close it and replace it in my back pocket.

I smile, turn and walk across the bridge.

I still haven't read it. I'll get around to it. I trust it will entertain.
