i'm sure it's little consolation,
but i think i understand.
if we played our lives out like a story,
they'd love you because you love my man.
you'd come on to swelling music,
and they'd turn their heads to see you stage
the bleeding heartsong of your passion,
and they'd hear justice in your rage.
you loved him first how dare i whisper
soliloquies that sing his praise,
have shivers when he says he loves me, and
perfect nights stretched out like days?
you loved and grew and ached about him
how could he choose to breathe with me?
you knew and loved the truth inside him,
and you gave the love that set him free.
they'd want to roast my heart and watch it blister,
to hear it crackle on the spit,
but they'd fantasize about you long after,
you're the girl they'd want to kiss.
i know it's little consolation
because the world is not your stage
and i am not a red-dress devil
just a girl who took your place.

I think the sixth line would be better without the word "they'd" Similarly with the eighth.
