We all know the good folks at Disney love to pull a fast one over the unsuspecting masses, afterall they are numerous instances of finding sexual imagery or subliminal messages in their movies. Well with their decision to make a brand new Winnie The Pooh series with a 6 year old Red-headed girl instead of Christopher Robin, I figured they were up to their old tricks and trying to add Sex appeal to the series now. So I decided a few days ago to rewatch the old series which I loved growing up before it became preverted. After a few episodes, I started to notice that perhaps my favourite childhood show wasn't so innocent to begin with. I got the distinct feeling that the characters were deliberately based off of social stereotypes. Here are the connections I made.

The whole Pooh thing would have been better with an emu or a llama character, maybe also an ostrich and definitely a yak. Except that it wouldn't work to have both an emu and an ostrich - too many large flightless birds. A flamingo might have been fun to add a little color, but there is something a little creepy about flamingos so maybe a peacock would work better. Is it the male or female peacock with all the colorful feathers? It seems like it might be the male so we could use it to introduce that all important prancing so so ghey character, you know to make it easier to explain to the kiddies why uncle Rick has a "roommate" who comes to family dinners.
