Y Halo Thar folks. It's been awhile and I'm sure you all wonder where I've been.

Actually you're all probably wondering who I am, considering I rarely contribute.

I've been recording some new music in a different genre. I'm traditionaly a bit of a metal head with some folk and funk roots (just try to decipher that mix). Recently I've been playing more random bits and thought I should lay down a track to see how it sounds.

Here's where you come in. Again, I am fairly new to the genre and this is the first time I've put together a tune in this style. Wouldn't it be fantastic if there was some way to share my art with the masses and receive appropriate praise/criticisms that will help me grow as a musician? Since there is no forum available that meets the prior criteria, I've decided to unleash it to the wolves of ubersite.

I played all the instruments, including but not limited to a seven string jackson electric, a six string fender squire, a six string accoustic yamaha, a homemade didjeridoo, and a 6 channel drum machine. The primary bass line is sampled from the Nine Inch Nails track 'Only'. The sampled vocals come from an old recording I had of my 2.5 year old daughter. All the editing, compiling, arranging and sampling was done by me through an ancient copy of CoolEdit2000.

Love it, hate it. Either way. I'm looking for some honest opinions to see if this musical path is worth persuing.

Peace, Love and Empathy.
.

ETS-

Like I said this was just an experiment. Check out the last tune for somthing that's been arranged and polished a bit better.

As to the voice, it's a little homage to my daughter from a recording of her doing the ABC's for the first time. It was lying around and that was what initiated the whole project from there.

take out that baby voice and you might have something... for techno junkies at least.

Sorry if that was overly harsh, but I am one of these people who still enjoys something that sounds like it didn't come out of a robot's ass.

I'm not a big fan of sampling in general. I think it has its place sometimes, but should never comprise the bulk of a song and it should never be a shortcut to creativity or a crutch for lack thereof.

That's my opinion, but you have to ask yourself...why is it that most of the music posted in forums is the same techno-style sampled crap you hear in every other forum?

Is the art of songwriting truly dead?

Someone, for god's sake, write a goddamn song!

I had to stop halfway through due to the extreme laughter.

It was good and all, but when the little girl started talking/singing or whatever the hell it was, I just thought it was the funniest thing I've ever heard.

Eh, go for it, but maybe leave out small children?

I like the drums and bassline...

But then there's just wayyy too much going on. It makes it hard to enjoy.

I always hesitate putting my band's music up here, but it is actually a decent place for honest opinions, and not some drunk mongrol who comes up to you after a show and says "you rocked".

garageband.com is a good place too.

Also, I was just wondering... where did you learn to play the baby?

I'm not saying that someone wouldn't like this kind of thing or even want to purchase this type of music.

It just won't be me.

Here's a 0 since you thanked me for a minus. That doesn't happen much around here.

This style would make for some excellent video game music, and in that respect, I liked it. But it's a little too bizarre for mainstream acceptance, I think. Having more traditional vocals in the track might rectify this problem though.

Nice sampling work, too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a little bit quirky.

That could possibly stem from my 20 year gaming addiction...learning by osmosis.

While I admire your ability to play multiple instruments, this sucked.

Parts of it reminded me a bit of "Yes", circa 1977, and I despised them then.

The rest of it reminded me that I didn't listen to the rest of it.

====================================================================================================

Is it wrong that I consider anything better than -2 from Shlongy a compliment? Thanks for the honesty though, that's more or less the kind of criticism I was looking to hear.

The correct move would have been to linkwhore the hell out of the first one, or even uberboard it.

This is a repost, I forgot to put it in the title. Please leave comments whether good or bad. I really would like honest feedback.
