I've had enough of you guys showing off your supposedly « ass-kicking » playlists to one another, patting yourselves on the back for such good taste. It's always about Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Genesis and sometimes, Metallica (oh, pleeease...). All of them aging/rotting has-beens. Yeah, most of them were geniuses in their time but now, I think it's time to just...let them go.
Face it, those dudes are over. We're at the begginning of a new millenium, aren't we? You should just turn the page instead of sucking on the not-so-sturdy-anymore, golf-playing and now-Viagra-needing babyboomer's collective dick.
"But, I'm not a bland babyboomer's following zombie, I'm truly an original and ecclectic being!" will you object. Music connaiseur, aren't you? Only recognizing talent, aren't you? Then why aren't you also recognizing Bach's, Saint-Saëns, and Mozart's? And what about those sick indian dudes rocking on their weird-sounding devices thingy they got going on there? What, "real" classics and foreign music isn't talent too?
Then face it. You're just following mindlessly a trend. The one the whole babyboomers generation has been forcing down our throats for decades. You're no better than stupid Emo kids.
That's why I've been sent here, on this planet. To talk to you about bands YOU should know...for your own good, I'd say. I know there will be a lot of bitching from most of the said babyboomer's sodomic slaves in here, so let me just tell you: I really don't care about your -2s. I've seen awesome posts getting negative ratings because of very stupid reasons, and very shitty posts getting near +2 average ratings because the poster was popular. Truly, I couldn't care less about your rating.

MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE
What to say? What to say? MSI has been categorized as American electronic punk, but it's so much more than that. Their influences are way more varied as they go from hip hop, to trance, to heavy punk, very post-modern (I just love sounding artsy). The fact is, not one of their albums sounds the same. But they all rock just as much and are truly unique from anything else that's out there on the music scene.
Their personal twist is, they throw in some freaky Atari sounds here and there. Another this special about their music is the singer's voice, the range of it...There's not a single note that guy cannot sing. Simply incredible.
Let's take alook at the band members:
Vocals and electronic sound mixing: Little Jimmy Urine
Bass: Lin-Z
Guitar: Steve, right?
Drums: Kitty
This bands rocks so much on stage, you wouldn't believe it, unlike those 90 years-old dinosaurs you guys call "The Rolling Stones". The lead, Jimmy Urine, has been setting his pubic hair on fire, drinking his own urine and doing golden showers to his public while singing in high pitched notes for years with the same intensity, always. He frequently ask people from the audience to come on stage to make out with them (both genders) and/or being punched in the face by them.
They also have the habit of staying after the show, signing whatever it is asked to them to sign, until there isn't a single soul left wanting an autograph. (Doesn't it make you feel like going: "Aaaaaawww..."?). I've been researching this, and a fan wrote on a message board that the singer, Jimmy Urine, signed his crotch saying: " You look better from this angle".
Talking about Little Jimmy Urine, here are some gems from him I've found for you all:

But talking about a band doesn,t do it justice, especially in the case of MSI. I was considering offering you their song "I hate Jimmy page" wich talks about the same exact thing I was ranting about in the begginning of this post, but I finally chose "Backmask".

Yes, yes, I do listen to all that too. In fact, if I ever do a list of bands I enjoy the most, Queen would be in my top 3, at least.
It's not that I hate old school rock, it's that I think that old bands take too much place in today's music scene, and we should give more chance to new bands.
Oh, and Tool rocks. Definitely going to do a post about them. Thanks for reminding me.

MSI is a great band I agree. "Ultra Sex" or something like that is my fave. But just6 because something is popular, or liked by another generation, doesnt mean it's bad. I listen to MSI and APC too. But I think Zeppelin, Queen, Hendrix, they're all great too. Music is my main passion. I listen to (almost) any and everything. Should do a post on Tool (best band ever).

By the way, this will eventually become a series, I was planning on doing the next ones on Perfect Circle and Mars Volta and such. I just needed a band that would make a clean cut from the "classic" ones I'm (kindof) complaining about in the post for the first one.
And I happen to like the way MSI doesn't take itself seriously, 'cause that's the kind of person I am. Sometimes, bands try to have thought-provocative lyrics but end up with very one-dimensional songs. The result is just... sad.
But don't get me wrong, I do love deep and ageless music. I just feel like my generation should have it's own identity, music wise. Some reviewer said today's music will not be remembered in the future, and that's why I am fighting with.
We live in a society that is dominated by the babyboomers generation. The whole political/cinema/music/economical/etc. scene is controlled by that generation and targets that generation. Have you not noticed? Who get to chose wich bands can or can't have a record deal?
The whole "rebellion" "underground" subculture have been marketized (is that a real word?) by the babyboomers and sold to my generation, and we have nothing left. And a real rebellion can't, or have really small chances of, happen because economically, our generation isn't viable by itself. Why? Because our bosses are babyboomers, our parents, our superiors, our clients.
So, moving on...I think the next one will be about a local favorite of mine: Arcade Fire. I'm still pondering though...

MSI is fun to listen to. It's catchy, fun to sing along to at the top of your lungs. I have a bajiner and I still can't hit some of Jimmy Urine's notes. That dude has his balls in a vice, I tell ya. I just don't really think that this is a band that everyone needs to hear. I agree with the person who said The Mars Volta, though. I think people of just about any age could like them, if only just a little. But MSI makes me think too much about Hot Topic and pink fishnets and effeminate little guys running around in tube socks and speedo's. Kinda disturbing.

Ok, where to start.
For the record, I am 17 years old.
I "grew up" listening to Metallica. Metallica is pure awesomeness at it's purest, awesomest form. Course, I'm also a Metal-fucking-Head. Moving on...
I like MSI. I was introduced to them a while back by a friend, and I have to say, it's catchy, and very funny.
However, don't go bashing people who like Metallica, and then go on to talk about MSI.
Reasons why you should not do this:
1-Metallica is awesome.
2-MSI is indeed cool, but have you ever listened to the lyrics? They aren't.... well written to say the least. It's all based on shock/humor, and there's no REAL emotion put into the lyrics.
I have to say, as a musical person myself, I don't generally like bands where the lyrics are stupid/repetitave/lame/poorly written.
2 exceptions would be MSI and Dope. I like lyrics to be deep, thought-provoking,sometimes metaphorical, and well written.
Now, this makes your sore a 0.
BUT since Kaos-King (sp?) mentioned A Perfect Circle, you have to get +2.

Mindless is one of the worst bands I've had the displeasure of listening to in the last several years...
I've actually managed to get some old folks (heh, 40 year olds) to listen to some modern music.
Some newer bands that are more "traditional" (better) are Mars Volta, Sigur Ros, A Perfect Circle, Queens Of The Stone Age, Mogwai, Muse and Coheed & Cambria. People who listen to classic rock are going to be more accepting of some of these groups than fucking Mindless...

And to whoever said it. I know this isn't their best song, but, as I've said it before, it's the first I've heard of them and it worked for me. I just coudln't pick the "best" one, because I like them all (or almost).
Actually, some of you understood my point. To the other ones, I don't think that previous generations music is not good. I think it's brilliant, in fact.
It's just that I think that people are afraid to experiment different things. Being a Beatles fan is...very safe. You know you won't ever be contradicted in any way, 'cause everyone loves them to some extent (And why shouldn't we? They're legends.)

but seriously...keep in mind that every generation goes through this. at one point the music that was cool to you is no longer cool, and there's a new generation of cool music, and you think it sucks. every generation of youth thinks the music that came before their cool music sucks. it's a sign of maturity when you realize that not all of it did.
although i doubt that this is "cool" even now, but then again, i'm out of touch.

Music doesn't age.. it's good regardless of when it was created. I'm all for experimental, and new music.. but MSI is a horrible example I think. If you want music for the new generation you ought to try.... Shpongle.... The Dandy Warhols..Infected Mushroom... The Strokes and possibly K-OS. I can't really think of any others at this moment. Basically, I agree with you on closed-mindedness(for lack of a better word), but this was poorly done

But what pisses me off is when other people go about trying to tell one another that the others taste in music sucks and they should start listening to their music. I've been going a little strong on the Beatles and such, I know. Truth is, I love most of their songs (if not all), particularly Yesterday which I think is a little masterpiece. I saw MSI about five years ago when they were opening for Rob Zombie (when he was good). They got booed offstage in five minutes. From a musicians standpoint, their music at times is as gimmicky as the bands you complain about. They try too hard to be obnoxious, and it shows.
