Scavenger Hunt - First Item: A Live Brown Argus (629 hits)

When I read Nath's story this morning: http://www.ubersite.com/m/86933, I couldn't help but ask to join the scavenger hunt so here we go.
"Alright guys, first thing on the list is a live Brown Argus. I've called some friends of mine who are in entomology classes at the university and they say they do have one in the class stock. They also say getting it out may be difficult because this particular Brown Argus is special to the professor who has it locked away in some kind of safe.
We have other things to get tonight so we'll need to make this quick. Our biggest problem will be campus security but we may also have to contend with teachers and students so we need to be prepared.
First, we'll need a diversion. The bigger the better. We're looking to draw security away from the buildings and gather as big a crowd as possible. This will be the riskiest part as far as I can tell because whoever takes on this part of the mission will need to occupy security for as long as possible and hopefully escape in the end. Who's the fastest runner?"
As I look around at my team I realize I've got very few people on my team that you'd consider "athletic" but finally I see a hand go up.
"Okay, John..."
"It's Jim"
"Whatever, here's what I want you to do."
After I finished giving my instructions to Jonas I turned to the rest of the group. "You and you" I said pointing at the two fattest in the group and feeling important, "You guys watch the doors to the entomology building and keep us up to date if anyone comes in once we go in.
The rest of you will be with me. If we encounter teachers or other students we'll use one person to distract that them while the rest of us continue. If you end up having to detain a teacher or student return to the van as soon as you can, once we have the specimen we will only wait 15 minutes. "
We got in to the van I borrowed from my mom and headed toward to the school. As we approached the entomology building I think I heard a gasp from everyone. The building was enormous; it looked to be several stories tall built out of granite or some other hard rock. It looked impenetrable. "Calm down guys, we can do this, it looks tough but we'll be fine." I started handing out the headsets I stole from my brother, he uses them for paintball or something and happened to have his whole team's set in his room, I also found a five dollar bill in some shorts on the floor and pocketed that too since he obviously wasn't worried about it. "These broadcast all the time so anything you say will be heard by the rest of the team. If I tell you to shut off please push this button to turn your mic off. "
"Jordan, it's time for you to do your thing."
Justin got out of the van and immediately stripped naked and then put his sneakers back on. I shuddered as he ran away, man bits, butt cheeks, belly, and man boobs all bouncing around, looking like that Jell-O in the commercials when it bounces in the bowl. I have to admit he really went for it; he was running across the lawn, sometimes circling groups of people and taunting them. Like a train wreck I kept watching as some girls laughed and another vomited in her dates lap. Finally, as he streaked across the lawn I saw security running out from various buildings, most importantly the entomology building.
"Let's go."
We piled out of the van, my door watchers immediately making for their posts.
"Alright, let's split into two groups and meet at the class stock room. You, take lead of group Tiger and I'll be leader of group Wolverine. Good luck."
I sent Tiger around the back of the building while I led Wolverine through the front doors. We immediately encountered resistance, a teacher tried to stop us immediately.
"You can't come in here, where are your student IDs?"
Just like we planned one of my team split off and steered the teacher out of the way while the rest of us disregarded and him and continued walking. I listened for a little bit while the kid that took teacher duty explained that we were here to inspect the building for termites. What a dumb ass, this is an entomology building, would they really need someone to tell them if they had fucking termites? I couldn't listen to anymore so I instructed bait number one to silence his mike and was relieved when I heard his voice cut off the com channel.
We continued down the hall, soon I heard two of Tiger groups people split off as bait. I listened as they worked on detaining whoever was ultimately an obstacle to the group and when I was satisfied with their work I asked them to silence themselves. I could see something in the hall ahead but couldn't make out what it was until one of the girls in the group screamed. Dumb bitch, nearly compromised the whole mission right then.
Several people poured out into the hallway and I hissed at her, "fall down now, claim that thing bit you, you've got to save the group now."
She toppled over and resumed screaming. "Oh my god help me please" she screamed as we kept walking. Again I felt relief as the people emerging into the hall immediately ran to the girl who'd been bitten by what appeared to be a large caterpillar. Whatever, the important thing is that we were through the hall. We turned the corner and could see Tiger team approaching. Both teams met at the stock room door light two members. I started to pick the lock when one of the Tiger team members reached over and turned the door knob, the door opened freely. "I've gotten pretty fast at unlocking doors." I'm not sure they believed I had anything to do with it but whatever.
"You two stand guard." I said pointing at the knob grabber and his friend.
The rest of us entered the stock room and began searching for our prize.
"Team lead, I found it!" yelled some red haired kid I didn't recognize.
I rushed over to his side and looked down at our prize. "Oh shit."
The butterfly was locked in a steel safe with holes all over it. The safe had a big combination lock on it and was about two foot by two foot square. I examined it closer, no way did we have time to try to crack this safe, let alone here. "You, you and you, grab a corner. We're taking it with us. Throw that cover over the top please. I grabbed a corner and counted down to lift.
"Uh, I'll just carry it."
Looked heavy, how should I know it only weighed a few pounds? I started walking out of the stockroom. "Everyone surround me. If we encounter resistance divert them and meet back at the van."
Our group didn't go unnoticed. Several people tried to stop us so one by one I lost my entourage. When I lost the remainder of my protection I ran for it. I almost made the front door when I tripped on a shoelace and went down. I scrambled to my feet again and as I gathered up the safe saw a professor coming in the door. He looked at the half covered safe and immediately recognized it.
"Hey! What are you doing! You return that immediately!" I ran, shoving the professor out of the way. I broke through the doors and saw Jude still running form security one the other side of the lawn.
"Quarry secure. I'll take the van, everyone meet me at the football fields. Hey Jake, shake the heat before you come and find a leaf or something to cover up with."
We did it. We secured the first item on the list. As I waited for the rest of my team to catch up I began thinking about how we would get the second item.

For instance, reading this part:

Seemed like it was in there for dramtaic build up when it wasn't necessary. Just my 2 cents. Overall, I liked the piece though...the termites in the bug building, the door being unlocked...I laughed.
(Sorry, that last one was supposed to be a +2 as well).

You actually didn't need to point that out in fact I noticed it when I read his post. Out of curiosity any particular reason? Did you actually read them and find mine less entertaining? If so that's fine I'm just wondering if there's something I could have done better.

It was a little heavy in some spots where it didn't need to be.
I loved this line: "I've gotten pretty fast at unlocking doors."
