I'm not an emotional person but this really caught my attention. 20th April 2006, a young girl was murdered. She was working in McDonalds and some 28 year old convicted paedophile stabbed her. Apparnelty, the police have not uncovered a motive yet.
Since coming onto ubersite and reading a post about death on the internet, I have thought about it quite frequently. Many years ago, before photography, the only way a person was remembered was through the minds of those close to them, and maybe diaries and portraits. Within today's society we have many means of remembering the deceased. Even if someone does not have an internet profile, they can continue existing within the medium of video or photography.
Having come across many myspace pages that discuss and openly confess emotions regarding the death of a friend, it made me wonder about how many people on myspace, and other such sites, are actually deceased. Are dormant profiles a result of someone dying? And by viewing these profiles, a person can get the chance to 'know' the deceased, even though they are already dead. It is like they can live on through the memory of others.
Myspace, in this respect, could be viewed as a virtual space where the deceased words and feelings still exist, and continue to exist until all traces of them have been deleted. Comments and the like remain fixed on a page as a constant reminder of what that person was feeling on that day, at that time. People can also comment on the page with their condolances. I'll leave you with a few quotes that made me sad. Rest in peace, whoever you are.
By the number 2 in her top 8:
"she can't be gone. she can't be. she'll be calling me any minute to tell me she's alright."
By a friend of the guy in her top 8:
"omg. your pictures of her made me lose it..."
There was a comment she made the week before she died, telling her friend what hours she is working, and assuring her they would go out soon. There are many condolences in her comments and picture comments.
Here is the news article that reported what happened:

And here is her profile link, so you can have a look at what has been destroyed. The guy should be tortured for doing this:

i found a guy called subspecies23 who killed a 10 year old girl. he left clues in his blogs that he was lonely and started to display feelings of cannibalism. in the end he killed this girl, raped her and stored her ready to eat her. he got arrested and they found the body in his closet.
---
Ridiculous really. He should have dismembered her and stored bits in tuppaware boxes in his fridge. Stays pop and fresh ready!
I'm sure girls are to blame though. I've seen a few instances on Uber where someone demands that someone 'eat me.' Asking for trouble.

I think you make a good point: a person's Internet presence is a way that they can "live on" after they've died (or gone to prison, or whatever). Their writing, their art, their photos, their conversations will be here long after they're gone. I find it all very interesting, particularly when they end up being murderers. I like reading their writing, and trying to find clues to their mindset and future actions.

maybe you should have read the whole thing, then you would have found this and had no need in making your stupid comment.

Well actually, way back in the day, people used to do this thing called 'painting'. You see they took what's called a 'brush', somewhat similar to the modern toothbrush, and dipped it in a colored liquid called 'paint'. They then used the 'brush' with the 'paint' on it to make markings on their medium of choice (frequently canvas). But I could see where you might not have heard of such a practice before. It was a relatively unknown art until these fancy Italian turtles started doing it and then all of a sudden everyone liked it! They ran around saying things like Cowabunga (Italian for "Hey, that's a bitch ass painting you got there") and Dude (Italian for "HAR HAR RABBIT!"). But then they overcommercialized, created a bunch of shitty derivative television shows and videogames and faded from glory, never to be heard from again.

Mind you - my ISP cut me off a while ago when my bank were late making a payment. I don't think I could live without the internet and posts about dolphin sex http://www.ubersite.com/m/87050

A couple of weeks ago they found this guy in London(?) who's been sitting dead in front of a still working tv for 3 years! That should be an easy to top record for the internet.
---
RIGHT! That's torn it. I'm never paying my TV license or electricity bill again. If the fuckers take three years to get you then what's the point? I can move houses quicker than that. I bet it was the TV detector man who found him though. They have magic vans which can smell fear.

You don't live on through memories, that's what you become after death: a memory. Whether it's written, painted, on foto or video or in ones head.

We didn't lose a cancer cure here. She doesn't strike me as particularly remarkable. Her death makes me feel nothing but indifference, kids like her die every day in traffic accidents.
All the people who left such dear messages on her vacuous myspace page will have forgotten about her as anything greater than an anecdote by the end of June. People are only ever remembered by the people that actually care about them, which is like half a dozen people. Seeing as those 6 people will be suffering with the loss it should probably be seen as a good thing.

Those really depress me. The person writing about the dead mate always, always says either "why oh why didn't (person) think about how it would affect me and his mammy?" or "I just don't understand why (person) did it".
Does it never occur to these people that the reason (person) put themselves away was because they were surrounded by selfish or insensetive people? I mean really, in my experience people with depression need only the very slightest encouragement to wax lyrical about their feelings and whatnot. These people just fail to understand how to shut up and listen.

It was all good up until the link "sceneslut". I can't feel an ounce of sympathy for her while there are actually good people dying.

Made me smile? No ranking box thing it didn't. It made me all sad.
But I agree, it's an interesting road to think down. There must be loads of dead profiles out there. And there I was thinking that nobody replies because i'm weird....I should really stop trying to make friends in somalia

What Lookie said. However, the idea that your thoughst and memories liveon through a website long after your dead is an intruiging one.
For many people these words and thoughts and pictures you left behind would be the only knowledge or contact they had with you.
I almost died last year and the only internet footprint I would have left would have been on Ubersite.
What the FUCK would peeps have thought about me?
That I like jam but hate the sea.
Thats about it.
