I like to think that I'm a pretty reasonable man, but sometimes I can get carried away. In the case of what I am about to say, I've taken a couple hours at the gym and the corresponding shower time to attempt to exhaust the anger out of me. But that didn't work, so here goes.
I attend the University of Ottawa. It's not a bad school, but it's not Harvard or Oxford or the Sorbonne. Despite being in Ontario, this school bills itself as a bilingual university. Fine. Problem is, it's not. It's a goddamn French school that the credits don't transfer out of, and it's all run by the French. I don't speak a word of it, so basically I'm right fucked when dealing with administration, and I'm stuck here. I am in our school's co-op program (basically make work for students), but I'm leaving OttawaU for law school in September, and I'm joining the Army Reserves.
This is where my frustration comes in.
The co-op bastards won't let me get out of their goddamn program. It counts as a course, except the drop date for it is so long before it begins that they may as well not have one. If I just quit, it looks as though I failed a course, and that may disqualify me from law school.I went to the French guy who runs the show today to try and explain my situation to him, that I couldn't work in the co-op program because I'd likely be on basic training for the Army, and that it really shouldn't matter because I'm not coming back next year.
The response I recieved to my face, and I quote:
"The Army needs to get its priorities in line with ours. If I let you drop this, then I'll have to deal with other people who might want to do the same thing."
Let my just run the arrgrovating part by you again:
"The Army needs to get its priorities in line with ours."
Now I don't know how this works in America or Britain or Australia, but it sure as hell wouldn't play like that. I'd imagine that the response from an American school would be something to the effect of "You must be out of your fucking head, wanting to take a thankless and physically demanding job where you may have to risk you life to defend my country, but someone's got to do it, and we're proud that it's one of our students." But no, this bastard doesn't want to answer a few phone calls, so no dice. I may have to choose between the Army and Law School (it's an easy choice, but I want both).
What really gets me about this is that it's a French guy. I should have known better than to expect sympathy from a French guy when I said I was joining the Army. After all, we are talking about a group of people whose military tradition is comprised of two things: defeats, and shameful defeats. In both world wars, Canada had a "conscription crisis" because we had to introduce conscription to get French Canadians to join the army, and they rioted instead of just sucking it up like most Canadians had done two to three years prior. This is what I was up against.
I'm an idiot, but he's a cunt. For your pleasure, he are some French soldiers surrendering (seriously, they are French).

My friend at University of Ottawa had a problem with bedbugs in her residence room. While everyone else in res got compensation in money, she didn't.
Even when they let her know that her room wasn't intended to be a room all along, it was like, storage space or something, she still didn't get anything.

As for your reference to the conscription crisis, which was blown WAY out of proportion and taken out of context by retads like you, please keep keep in mind that there are plenty of french-canadian men who served in both WWI and WWII. My grandfather being one. Way to disrespect the veterans of your own country. I wonder if you would be as arrogant if you left your basement and your computer and actually came face to face with one. Or I wonder if you would have the balls to tell an actual frenchman (whose country lost millions of people in both world wars) that they are surrendering.

French Cnadian's have never felt welcome in the whole of canada. If Quebec was being attacked they'd unite like Russians fromt eh Urals. Their was a lot of bicking politically back in the conscription days the riots were ploys to make a point. On another side maybe Quebecers did go on the fight for Canada Heroically, Quebec had the third largest number of members fighting for canada in WWII.

Universities in the US in general are pretty anti military, or at least anti people joining the military.
Were french canadians really the only ones who rioted over the draft? I can't wait to bash Caul because of this. Maybe it isn't a problem with the french people being cowards, maybe the french language makes you one.
