Their eyes fell all upon me as my hand
Was flushed and full, unlike their luckless stacks,
They'd raised and called and now the fires are fanned,
The point of no return, no going back.
I'd taken them for hours, winning pots,
Their money meant for bones and toys that squeak,
I'd made them all my bitches, copped the lot,
No lifting legs - now they must lean to leak.
This monocle might make me look the fool
And aye, the pipe may bring me foul regard,
But I will tolerate a joke or two
Because this x-ray lens sees through their cards.
A cheater, I? Perhaps. I like to win.
These whelps will soon be neutered - they're all in.
