Part 1 - http://www.ubersite.com/m/87748
Dan had been working at the soup kitchen for three and a half years now, it all started back when he dated Helen and they had helped out over the Christmas period on her suggestion. He was of course trying to impress Helen that he had a human side, that there was more to him than his Baseball and Buddies. But something happened to him while he worked there for them three short days.
He had somehow connected with the people and their plight and felt a huge surge of fulfilment in the voluntary work that they did. To the extent that long after he and Helen had petered out he still visited, took food, raised money or organised things for them.
It was now very much a second part to his life and most evenings after finishing work at the CIA building he could be found downtown up to his elbows in some stew or soup or curry.
I'd identified the second person who would fulfil my needs; he seemed to be a regular employee, a decent person with no apparent enemies. I'd been following him for just over two weeks now. I merely spotted him leaving the complex and initially picked him because of the car he drove.
It was four weeks since I'd killed the lady, my first victim and the first step on a very tall ladder that was aimed at paying back my old employees for firing me. They said I wasn't fit to carry a gun, or run a project or for that matter photocopy a sheet of fucking paper. How it was my fault that the bitch fucked some guy, I do not know.
So anyway, I've been watching him for a few weeks, he goes out most evenings into downtown to help out with down and outs, feeding them and giving them blankets and shoes that actually have laces in them.
I'd gathered a sizeable portfolio of his details, all the stuff I'd collected for the first Vic. Home address, car details, hobbies, photos of him and his acquaintances, his start and finish times, everything I was going to need to make my life easier and his shorter.
His file of course was labelled Vic2.
Tonight however Dan wasn't going to the kitchen, he had a date. He'd been burnt a couple of times in the past by girls who he thought he love but who didn't love him. Since then had been ultra cautions to the point of not really dating any longer. Perhaps that's why he immersed himself in the voluntary work.
Claire was special; he'd know her for eighteen months and thought an awful lot of her. They both have apartments in the same block and had spent many late nights chatting or watching films in one another's residents. There was a casual relaxed atmosphere between them where they were comfortable in one another's company.
He was looking forward to an evening at a local restaurant and maybe a glass or two of wine, he was sure that Claire had the same feeling as him.
Dan ironed and hung his favourite shirt, slipped on his soft 501's and added a pair of sandals to the mix. It was fairly mild so he'd leave the shirt to the last minute to avoid getting up a sweat especially as he now found himself feeling nervous.
It was 30 minutes until they were due to meet in the little Irish bar on the corner
I followed Dan to an Irish bar on the corner of the street that he lives, it seems that Daniel J Wallot has got himself a girlfriend, this is rather unfortunate timing for him.....actually it is rather unfortunate timing for her as Dan isn't really going to be the one thinking that he wished they'd got to know one another sooner.
This actually helped me; he had a girlfriend so I could focus my mind on killing him. I'd be doing him a favour, he wouldn't see it that way I'm sure but I was. I'd kill him before the dirty fucking whore had the chance to sleep with his boss and break his fucking heart.
Fucking tell me I'm not in the right frame of mind for my duties. I'll pop off another one of their people and then they'll be sorry.
Dan woke in the morning feeling good; he'd had one hell of a night. The conversation had flowed just like it always did when he and Claire met. Yet this time they had admitted their feeling for one another and found out that it was mutual. Mutual and a little overdue. It turns out that Claire had always like Dan, Dan being a typical male was a little late on the uptake, say fourteen months or so.
The night had then got better and better, they delved and probed finding out all there was to know about one another, their youth to present was covered in great detail, they finally finished chatting at 4am and could probably have kept going.
But the night had been perfect and neither of them wanted to spoil that moment. They had gone their separate ways to their separate beds elated with themselves. Looking forward to waking up and having the chance to call one another or see one another the next day.
He took his whore to a restaurant which I sat outside of until eleven, after that they went to another bar and sat in the corner engrossed in conversation. They seemed to be going nowhere so I left them to it and made my way home. I was certain that I knew what I was going to do and when.
Dan's next day at work was the most glorious day he had experienced, he virtually skipped into the office and all of his colleges commented on what a good mood he was in.
"Dan got laid last night" seemed to be the most common opinion on his happiness.
He may as well have because not one of the guys at the CIA believed that he did not no matter how much he protested. It seemed weird that he spent his early years there trying to convince the guys that he had got laid the previous night and now, here he was trying to convince them that he hadn't.
All the girls ohh'd and ahh'd when he explained that he'd connected with someone last night. They understood what he meant and they believed him when he said that was more important that nothing his bed post.
He drove home that night with the promise of a seeing Claire at the forefront of his mind.
I waited in the hallway of his building; there were only four apartments in this section. One of the occupants was away on holiday and the other two were at work. I knew that Dan came home earlier than the rest due to his early start time.
I sat on the top stair by his front door so I would be sure that it was Dan who I would actually be shooting.
Sure enough on schedule I hear the lower door open and I stand up. Dan takes his stairs one at a time with his head down. He is only a few steps ahead of me when hi finally realises that someone is blocking his way.
He stops and looks up at me.
I fired two silenced bullets into his face and he falls backwards into the stairwell. I drop my card that says 'You'll be sorry' onto his body and left
