When I was a young man I used to work in group homes with retarded children. The pay sucked but the hours were very agreeable with my lifestyle. Initially the schedule was the only attractive thing about the work. My work week was Monday thru Friday 6- 10 am then 4 to 8pm which gave me 40 hours, weekends off and prime weekday and evening hours off to pursue my real career passion of boozing drugging and chasing tail.

My duties were to come in each morning and help the kids get ready for their day programs. Basically assist them with cleaning up, getting dressed, and cooking them breakfast. Once they were on the bus, I was done until the afternoon. In the afternoon I was really just responsible for watching them like a babysitter to make sure they didn't set themselves on fire or feed their arms into the garbage disposal.

After a while of working in the group homes I found myself staying past my shift and talking with the house parents, helping with other chores like getting them ready for bed and reading them stories. A few months in to this job, I found myself totally submersed in it. It seemed at any given time I could be found in one of the 7 group homes my company had. I began taking the kids on mainstream activities all the time. I would take them to the zoo or a drive in movie, fishing, diner at restaurants. We would go to the park and I would try to teach them how to play wiffle ball. I would do anything just to get them out of the house.

The owners of the group homes were very pleased with me not only because I was taking an interest in the kids but because I would always cover peoples shifts if they couldn't make it to work.

Due to a confluence of personal and economical circumstances(I knocked up my girlfriend) I had to quit working in the group homes after just one year of service and get a job that paid serious cash.

In the past twenty years I have learned and mastered several trades and also enjoyed success in white collar professions. I have been self employed for over ten years which allows me great flexibility with my schedule not to mention controlling my own destiny. But nothing I have done or accomplished has given me the type of satisfaction that the crummy paying job in the groups gave me.

I have arrived at a place in my life where I don't need to make the kind of money that I used to. I am not claiming that I am wealthy from savvy investments or I won the lottery, im just saying that my family would not lack anything if I had a crummy paying job.

So with the encouragement and support of my wife I have decided to go back to changeling wrangling. I found a great company with a very client based philosophy that is willing to pay me crummy wages and offer me once again that special kind of satisfaction that I enjoyed several years ago.

I am excited like a kid on Christmas eve. I begin orientation and training next week. The change that I have decided to make in my career has not come without great trepidation. However, following my heart as opposed to slouching towards cash with the crowd has afforded me another measure of redemption which as some of you know is something I need to bank any opportunity I get.

+2 for the sentiment. Hope you brought up the child you got your girlfriend "knocked up" with.

I dont work with any sort of needy persons, and the satisfaction I get from the CASH I bring home at the end of the week beats anything else in the world. The things I can buy with that cash, the bitches who will fuck me to get their hands on my cash... it's great.

Fuck you "Humanitarian" types and your whiney bullshit about how great it is to help others, what a bunch of horseshit.

I'm a materialistic bastard and fucking proud of it. While you're sitting at home, watching your 10" black & white tv, eating off paper plates and contemplating how good it felt to help little "Bobby the retard" to wipe his ass today, I'm driving around in my obnoxiously loud and flash (and expensive) car, macking hot bitches and smoking copious amounts of ganja, thinking about how great it felt to bust a backside tailslide to 270 on my ridiculously expensive snowboard earlier in the day.

yeeeeaaaaaaa

I volunteer at the local cathouse as a blowjob receiver - they test on Shlongy before the broads get hired.

It's funny - when I first volunteered there, I thought it had something to do with the Humane Society.

Strange how that turned out.

Very nice.

I volunteer at the children's hospital and completely can relate to that feeing of accomplishment. My full-time doesn't come close to the satisfaction I feel when I'm helping people out.

Cudos!

They won't hire you when they realize you are a pseudo-online pornographer, i.e. the red head shit.

Changeling wrangling!

Mon - Fri 6:00-10:00 and then 4:00-8:00? Those hours suited you? That sounds like freaking torture! Beginning with having to be at work at 6:00 a.m. (I've never been a morning person), but leaving work and then having to come back later? Ack! Particularly given your 3 favorite activities there, what if you got up to any of those after 10:00? - you had to straighten up and go back to work at 4:00. I can't imagine. Sounds very painful.

If this is true, congrats and good for you. That's outstanding.

If not, just go back to being a big dumbass of a blockhead who posts pretty much nothing but shit.

You should find a job where they pay you to be boring. Cause I bet you'd rock.

Good for you, really. I'm happy that you're happy especially doing something that I think takes a lot of patience and some other adjectives that I can't think of at the moment but am positive that I, personally do not have.

Wait a minute, by "mainstream activities" you don't mean cleaning out your garage and mowing your lawn do you?

Based on your history here at Uber I'm not sure that I can take your decision with anything other than a grain of salt.

The term is defined as 'occupational slumming'= taking a job below ones abilities in order to shirk or remove oneself from responsiblity
