Man I can not WAIT for Friday to come. The Da Vinci Code opens worldwide and I, for one, will be there to see it. I'm sure I won't be the only one there, either. I guarantee this movie makes more than Spider Man and that had Kirtsen Dunst in a wet tee shirt!!

Say what you will about Da Vinci's subject matter, this book was one of the best page turners I have ever read. From the second page, I was obsessed with finding out what was going to happen and who that dang albino was working for.

Not only was the book a great thriller, but it has Ron Howard directing! Have you SEEN Cinderella Man? I laughed, cried, got goose bumps, peed my pants AND kissed a girl during that movie. It was awesome!

Anyway, all the talk about how controversial this movie is is going to make the sales sky rocket. It happened with the Passion and it will happen with Da Vinci. Name one movie that was surrounded by controversy that didn't do well in the box office. You can't.

Brokeback Mountain made some major paper, but that's just because MeTHod and I went and saw it like 5010564351.21.4 times. That's hot.

I was kind of hoping that Indiana Jones was going to be in the lead for this movie but I guess Tom Hanks will do. As long as he doesn't have a stupid accent a la "Lady Killers."

Be ready to wait in long lines of angry Catholics and be sure to remember that it's a work of FICTION. Why cant people wrap their heads around that? Its not like Dan Brown said this is fact. He's no James Frey people.

Does anybody know if he sold the movie rights for one lump sum or is he getting a piece of the back end? I know I would LOVE to get a piece of that back end! $$

i pictured him as a frail old man. so it worked for me. like i said before though, seeing silas limp after the guy in the Louvre reminded me of the time a pale crackhead asked me for change and when i said no he started following me down the street. did he kill me? no, i threw my coffee in his face and then took two dollars out of his pocket and got a new coffee. he was more scary then silas.

Yes, sangria (italian I think?) is derived from sang real.

*pats Jake on the head for monkeys comment* Genius acknowledged, darling.

The script has nowt to do with the problems I've heard about in this film. It's all a matter of failure to coax believable performances from the actors, and a general "dumbing down" of the storyline in general. These are things that Ron Howard was responsible for. The overall mood of the film is the director's responsibility, not the scriptwriters, or the producer, or the AP, or anyone else.

The blame lies with Opie.

I saw 2 movies this weekend:

1 - The DaVinci Code, which was okay. A little slow moving at times, but okay. Not terrible, just okay. I saw the twist in the movie waaaaaaay before it came, so that kinda took a little out of it for me.

2 - See No Evil was possibly the worst movie of all time. All it is is gratuitous blood. The 1st 5 minutes are okay, but after that it sucked ass. It's only an hour and a half movie, and I caught myself, about 3/4's of the way through, wondering, is it done yet? There was inappropriate laughter though, which is always fun, when the director meant for it to be scary. The only good part of the entire movie was the storyline between the mother and son, which if they had explored further, would've raised the movie a few bars.

Detailed analysis of the problems I had with the film:

*SPOILERS*

The Louvre was barely featured at all. I mean sure they were in there - but did you ever feel they were surrounded by art, or that it was just background 'oh look - a masterpiece - *quick cut away* - rubbish anagram solving scene which looked as cheap as a Jackson 5 video.

Paul Bettany did not look threatening in the plane when he was captive. He looked ludicrous. He had a few scary moments, but generally was 'meh' at best at being threatening.

Gandalf's double nature was shown too early. He then spent too long being an amiable enemy. When he was waving the gun around - did you feel he was going to shoot anyone? Did you think Tom Hanks and whatsherface were scared? they looked more bored.

Jean Reno - OOOOH I AM CROSS - why exactly? I didn't feel he had any motivation beyond a paper thin 'you know i'm Opus Dei don't you?' *understanding shrug from other Frenchman*

Numerous endings, none of which were satisfying. Christ's sake - AHA - NOW IT'S THE END - no no - another bit now. It was protracted and unpleasant.

The code breaking bit with the cryptex - sounded like an Apple Computer's advert - all the more annoying after his turn in Forrest Gump.

Tom Hanks looked OLD and flabby.

The lass didn't just phone in her performance, she faxed it in. Honestly- I heard she was going to go work with monkeys now. BIG FUCKING DIFFERENCE

Instead of looking for le sang real, she is looking for les singes for real. Thoroughly depressing.

In conclusion, I have seen worse films, but I have certainly seen many better.

And I don't like Ron Howard

I fail to see how one can butcher a book that was practically a screenplay inits own right. It had the proper pacing, the imagery, the tension... it had everything but the cinematography notes. What I want to know is WHY they felt the need to change the book? WHY did Ron Howard, in his infinite wisdom, refuse to just FOLLOW THE FREAKING BOOK?

If he had, there's no way it could have gone wrong. I mean, honestly! Look at the casting! I, for one, enjoy Tom Hanks alot. I think he's very talented. But he is an actor bound by his director, and when he's got a shoddy director, his acting suffers. He also looks like a greasy meatball these days.

This novel is one of the most poorly written works on the subject matter in a series of otherwise interesting literature.

Facts, that would be quite easily corrected through a minimal amount of research, were skewed completely for no reason that I can make out.

---------------

+2 because some people are still too retarded to understand what "fiction" means.

BTW The Terminator, Predator, Neverending Story and Schindlers List are all fiction, and it's TOTALLY TRUE
-----
Yes, what I said obviously concludes that.

Sigh. Why bother?

Yes, it's fiction. But yes it's based on an existing theory. The person writing it did not care enough to familirize themselves with said theory. That always sort of bothered me.

But really I just don't like grocery store trash.

I read that book, it took me about two hours. This is not what I consider great writing, but I did finish the book so there's that going for it. It will probably make a decent movie, it pretty much read like a movie script anyway. I'm more amused at how threatened the church is by it than anything. I saw some sort of pamphlet about it at the Y yesterday, I was curious as to what they had to say but not actually curious enough to pick up one and then read it. It's really just best if I stay sheltered from "that" side of the Y.

I liked the DaVinci Code, and will go see the movie when it comes out on Friday. Yes, his character development sucks, but books like that are just like action movies. You don't go see action movies because you know the acting will be awesome, do you?

On the subject of the supposed plagiarism, Holy Blood, Holy Grail was quoted directly in the DaVinci Code, and given full credit on the exact same page. You didn't even have to flip to the bibliography. I never understood what those people were crying about. The theories explored in The DaVinci Code have been introduced time and again in academic papers. The only reason he's gotten such press over his book was because he managed to introduce the subject in a way that grabbed the attention of the average person without being too verbose or condescending.

This novel is one of the most poorly written works on the subject matter in a series of otherwise interesting literature.

Facts, that would be quite easily corrected through a minimal amount of research, were skewed completely for no reason that I can make out.

what facts do you speak of? i'm pretty sure its fiction and was marketed as a thriller. not a factual representation of real life events.

-------
Of course not, but my understanding was the book is written in a fictional way based on mostly on the other book. I beleive from hat I have read or seen that there are many similarities.

My point was I wasn't going to read two books if they are practically identical.

I know that Dan Brown won the court case and I haven't read the Code, maybe I will now so that I can make my own mind up. Was saying that was the reason that I hadn't read it.

what are you one of those albinos that are all upset about the how albinos are always the bad guy in movies?? huh?

------------------

Not to be an albino apologist, but it's never really their fault. Lack of pigment can make a guy go crazy. Look at the kid in "Powder," for instance. He was a decent enough guy, but being an albino with telekinetic powers doesn't help you fit in in social relationships. In the end, he left this earth because those around him were too ignorant to share in his love.

The only guy I knew who could pull it off was Data in "Star Trek: TNG," and even he had his share of problems. Remember that time that chick left him? She said it was because of his lack of emotion, but it was obviously his pale skin. Poor bastard.

yes because i watched jarhead completely and totally for its cinematic value. not for the shower scene, the nice shot of jake fucking his girlfriend up against the wall or the field fuck scene. it was purely for the way they pulled off the screenplay version of a good book, not for the swinging dicks.

Jarhead wasn't really a war movie. At least not a traditional one. He wasn't killing anyone or getting shot at, there wasn't that much horror or suffering. It wasn't a huge action movie. I don't think it was terrible, I just thought it was going to be a lot better.

This book wasn't that good. it wa ok, but it was written like a video game jumping from cheesy clue to cheesy clue.

Cheesy is right. No surprise twists whatsoever.

So the deal is that Jesus got married and had kids, and His descendants are running around today, right?

But after 60 generations, the ratio of God to Man must have been quite watered down - what kind of powers would Jesus' descendants have today?

My guess is that they can find parking sopts whenever they want to...

didn't read the book. i accidently read the prequel though and that was cool. sometimes it made me want to smack my forehead though but i'm all for killing. there is killing in the book/movie right? weird thought, if there's an albino why didn't they just get that real (i think) albino from cold mountain? he's hot even though he's all ghost like.

still haven't seen brokeback mountain. i'm afraid it'll kill the doability of jake gyllenhaal especially when the last thing i saw him in was jarhead.

i never thought it really lived up to the hype to be honest, but it was decent enough to pass the time, and good enough to keep me until the end. that's saying something since i return alot of my books to the library after only reading 2 or 3 chapters.

...now, i'm off to check on the posts about bush and imigration, and i'm sure there are a few.

She's not better or worse in my opinion, she's different.

She is less plastic and she's more petite.
And her accent makes Monsieur Pénis happy.

They are both excellent rape material.

Maybe it's because I listened to the book-on-CD during a long business trip, but I reaaaally didn't think this book was all that great. My sister think's it's the greatest thing ever written but then again, she reads about a book a decade. Which in and of itself must say something for the book's appeal, but . . . and I say this out of love . . . as far as readers go, she's kinda working that "lowest common denominator" thing.

Not to mention, to hear the folks at church talk, you go straight to hell if you even THINK about looking at the posters for this movie.

Dan Brown writes almost as bad as the ubersite collective, seemed like most of his research was done via google, and I'm sick of hearing about such a shitty book. It is pretty sad that just choosing not to read a book isn't enough to not hear every single detail about it. By this stage everyone has either read it or has chosen not to read it, so just shut the fuck up and go enjoy it and don't talk about it, which isn't going to happen, I'm going to have to listen to fuckheads go on about the movie for months now, after already enduring the shit after the book came out.
