The Austrian painter and illustrator Gustav Klimt, (1862 - 1918) was the founder of the school of painting known as the Vienna Sezession. It embodied the tense erotic, psychological, and aesthetic preoccupations of turn-of-the-century intellectual world. He is remembered today through a massive body of exquisite work.
The primal forces of sexuality, regeneration, love, and death are the dominant themes of Klimt's work. He has been called the preeminent exponent of ART NOUVEAU. Klimt's style drew upon an enormous range of sources, from Greco-Roman and Egyptian to late-medieval painting and the woodcuts of Albrecht Dürer.
He is recognized by his used of gold leafing and his strange use of textures and two dimensional imagery. Although he often did landscape work, it is his work capturing the beauty and ferocity of women that has intrigued people over the last century. Most famous is his painting, "The Kiss," which can now be found printed on all manner on marketable items.
I discovered Gustav Klimt during Art School and fell in love with his portrayal of women and his unconventional use of color. His use of iconic imagery and text was something I found refreshing. He, along with J. W. Waterhouse, have been hugely influencial in my illustrative and painting style.

A bio isn't exactly something a reasonable person would assume you were claiming as your own. I hardly consider it the same as plagiarism. It's the art that's important.

No, you're absolutely right Mike. I did use parts of this article to construct my post. I have a bunch of books on Klimt but I was too lazy to walk into my bed room and get them so I just copied and pasted certain phrases and restructured them according to what I thought was the most important. I figured it was easier and I could edit things down so it didn't seem like I was writing a paper for school.
I humbly take your -2 with my glass raised...

I love Klimt. I seem to recall a news story a few years ago regarding the original painting "The Kiss"... it was "confiscated" from an affluent Jewish family by Nazi troops back in WWII and surfaced in a Swiss museum (I think). The family was fighting to get it back.

Ok, so this is going to sound gay...but whatever. I started to really get into Klimt's work after seeing the movie 'Dying Young' with Julia Roberts and Campbell Scott. He is now one of my favorite painters.
