It was twins!
After 7 long years trying to conceive, having tried all manner of methods, having had sex by the word of a stop clock, or thermometer or even a spiritualist medium, having tried umpteen different positions and times of the day, it was all over, they were finally parents. They now had the children that they so desperately wanted and felt that they deserved. And twins to boot, they wouldn't have to go through this pain again as they had an instant family.
John surveyed the scene of hospital staff surrounding Joanna, the buzz and the activity, the doctor in the corner washing down his hands and his forearms. The controlled chaos that was all around and he looked at the two little bundles in the crib by the side of the bed. His heart nearly stopped, he swore it did, the feeling of overwhelming joy and love, it was indescribable. Then he looked at Joanna, in amongst all the fuss and commotion she sat looking serene.
----
I'd been keeping my eye on the papers and they were just starting to link all the killings together now. The third murder had thrown them off the trail a little bit because she technically wasn't an employee of the CIA, however her father was and she was working there in the summer break, so they were still able to make some kind of connection. However they still had nothing strong.
It just meant that I had to be careful.
I'd taken to frequenting a coffee shop around three quarters of a mile from the complex because I knew that employees visited in their break to buy bagels and coffee. It didn't matter how many times you told staff to remove their ID cards when they left site, they just didn't do it. So the CIA staff stood out like sore thumbs, I like to think I could recognise one from a mile off anyway but they just made it easy for me, and I wasn't going to complaint.
So I'd found Vic4 there, buying himself and some work colleagues treats for the afternoon no doubt. Help to make the drawn out afternoon slot go a little quicker. Before I was fired I had a guy fetch me and the others in the office things, it was very decent of him.
It's always the nice ones that do that.
----
Things were all OK, the doctors were happy, Joanna was in no pain and hadn't needed any stitches and the babies were the examples of ideal weight and good health. It was going to be a formality, another night in the hospital and then God willing they would come home tomorrow.
John couldn't wait to have them all back, he was at home now putting the finishing touches to the nursery and tidying the house, and he also arranged the flowers he had bought Joanna into Vases and placed them in each room.
He was determined to do things right, make it as easy as possible for her. He really fancied himself as a modern man, who while he couldn't give birth he could certainly understand what is involved in that process and do as much as he could to shown Joanna that not only did he care about her and love her but that he appreciate her and what she had done for them.
He would visit tonight for a few hours and also check that everything was going according to plan, and then after that, from tomorrow onwards he'd have her... no.....Them, all of them, his new family at home.
----
I'd seen the guy a few days ago but hadn't seen him since. I was beginning to get sloppy with the surveillance. I'd done it previously with the guy who I'd killed second and the young girl who I killed last time. I'd left them alone on an assumption that I knew where they were going and what they were doing. But this was a dangerous practice and on this occasion the guy hadn't shown for the last two days in the coffee shop, totally going against the previous two weeks when he'd visited every day.
Luckily, in the early period I had followed him home so this wasn't such a big deal, it just pissed me off that I'd let my guard down a little. I reprimanded myself to improve. For fucks sake, this was all about showing them I was better than them, better than their employees, this was all about showing them that they shouldn't have sacked me. The last thing I wanted to do was play into their hands. If you are going to take on the CIA you had to be smart.
So that evening I cruise by his house and there are lights on. I don't need to worry, he hasn't got wind of my plans and fled, after all how could he have?
I sit and watch the house and realise that the woman must have given birth at last, which of course explained his absence from work, she isn't there and he is acting like a housewife, cleaning and putting flowers all over the place. OK, so this might make him a little unpredictable but I would cope.
----
John arrived at the hospital to be told that yes indeed Joanna would be able to come home in the morning with Libby and James, they were all ecstatic. He sat with Joanna, they had a baby each while they discussed near and long term plans. She was as excited as him he realised; she hadn't expressed this till now because of the emotion, stress and exhaustion that she had been through in the last three days.
However, that was all soon forgotten as they shared the new focus of their lives, the two little things that their entire future was about to revolve around. They jointly daydreamed about what a wonderful thing it was to have happened to them after all these years of trying. They both felt that they deserved this so much.
----
I followed him to the Hospital, I suppose that was predictable but I wouldn't allow myself to speculate any more so treated this as I had treated the first Vic, I took digital shots of him leaving his house and then later walking to the hospital entrance. They'd all wind up in the portfolio labelled Vic4.
It is funny how conspicuous you feel standing in the street with a camera and firing off shots, but you'd be amazed. Buy yourself an expensive piece, one that looks like the professionals use and no one will bat an eyelid at you, I guarantee it. They may glance in the direction of who you are photographing but this modern celebrity infested world that we live allows you the freedom to photograph with near impunity.
So he was visiting the whore, at least I knew it wasn't going to be a long night, but what I did know was that she must be due home soon and that could really confuse matter.
----
John kissed Joanna, then Libby followed by James. It was heaven, he was leaving them at the hospital but it was still heaven because tomorrow he knew they would be at home.
He promised Joanna that he'd be back at 9am on the dot ready to bring her home, with a final kiss on her forehead he left.
He walked out to the car park feeling alive.
----
I saw his leave the hospital and walk towards me. I was in a parking space a few cars along from his. I waited until he'd got into his car and wandered up to his window.
I lightly tapped on the glass. He was just putting a Polaroid picture on the back of the sun visor; I saw it was of a woman holding two small babies. He looked up at first a little surprised but then quickly went for the button to lower the pane.
I lifted my pistol and fired two shots into his forehead, a look of surprise was on his face just as I fired the first, by the time I fired the second he didn't have a face.
Dropping the card that said 'You'll be sorry' into the car I turned and left.

I missed this.
The story is solidifying nicely. Unfortunately, serials on this site seem to often go unappreciated. This series should be an exception. More people should be reading this.
I have no criticism of this installment.
Please keep up the good work.
