McKenzie police have charged two Carroll County parents with raping their child.
Jonathan Wayne Goodrum, 19, and Kristina Louise Sawyer, 18, are charged with raping their 1-day-old girl before she was taken home from McKenzie Regional Hospital about six weeks ago, said McKenzie Police Lt. Tim Nanney.

While both parents have been charged, Sawyer's bond was reduced because police still are investigating what role, if any, she played in the possible rape of her child, Nanney said. She was charged because "I could not exclude her from being part of it, so I had to charge her also," he said. "I could not exclude her at the time from being a participant of it."
Personally? I would have shot them both right on the spot. If the man that you fucked rapes his newborn baby, you should be killed for letting him fuck you, you worthless whore.
Nanney said hospital officials notified police of the possible rape after noticing injuries to the child's rear during a routine examination given before newborns are released from the hospital.

People get off of sentences for crimes they were thought to commit because of advancements with DNA evidence, not because they were convicted because the prosecution said.

They were sentenced because the juries were prejudice against them, or there were eyewitnesses who said he looked like the man who did it. They were let off because there was DNA evidence that proved their innocence.

Legal, rape doesn't need to have semen.
You can rape someone with a finger or a dildo, it's still rape.
I'd say if there's damage to the orifice, and it happened in the private room, one of the two did it. I'd imagine that everywhere else in the natal wing, there are cameras that would have seen if it were a nurse or someone else.

Damn this got heated, all right let me try and respond to some of the comments.
GM just out of curiosity, what would forensics have to do with this post at all? Now feel free to correct/flame me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that forensics was more about dead people/things and autposies and such?
Rich, I'm not 'jumping to conclusions' but I trust that science is advanced enough, to be able to tell the difference between rape and an over zealous cleaning. Also the children's hospital my mother worked at for the majority of her working life had the baby ward monitored by videos. My theory that does go along with the official story is that they had a private room, the mother possibly there, not there, or asleep. The man could have raped his daughter or shoved something up her ass. This is a small county so private rooms would most likely be available. And all stereotypes aside, I've lived in eastern Tennessee my whole life, I have met and KNOWN at least an upwards of 10 women who had or were a baby by a close relative, so the fact he would try and fuck his daughter isn't as shocking as the fact that it was a one day old baby. If you live in a motel, I'm going to assume you're trashy, and all the women I met were very trashy indeed. That being said, if the prosecution cannot give any solid DNA proof he raped her, and instead relies entirely upon emotion, then the man should walk free.

My original comments about africa were in response to phuzzy and inion's comments. I didn't mean to imply the entire continent was fucked. But you have to admit the number of fucked countries is very high. I was just curious why you didn't see this in say southeast asia. A lot of countries there had the same technology prior to colonization, but are ok now.

How 21st century...to do anything else would require rational thought, deductive reasoning and maybe some time and patience.
Being a member of the rational tribe, I find this story puzzling for a few reasons, foremost being that a one day old infant is given to the mother for limited periods of time for feeding in a room that at the very least contains 1 to 4 other patients ( unless you believe that a couple living at a motel can afford a private room?)along with visitors, doctors, nurses and aides. Secondly it seems to be a physical impossibility. A more convincing scenario is that a nurse or aid when cleaning the infant scrubbed too hard and tore the extremely delicate and fragile skin which is like a butterfly wing at 1 day old. Considering the quality of the hospital staff these days, some who can barely communicate, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Of course the facility wants to blame someone else, they don't want a lengthy lawsuit and the public embarrasement.

um no. this weekend my friend gave birth. she, being on social health insurance until she gets married and gets on navy tricare, got her OWN and the option to have her baby in with her alone after the first couple hours. all of that depends on the hospital and circumstances of the parents, ie are they in prison giving birth or not.
i agree with the second part though. and either way, there had to be something more damaging than just minor tears or a slight rawness to the skin from scrubbing for them to think there was a sexual assault and not just an overzealous cleaning.

Secondly I agree with pretty much all off this except the fact that no matter how disgusting and depraved the crime. You've GOT to give the guy a fair trial. Cases like this are so emotive that often we (as a sociaty) fall into the trap of just needing somone to punish regardless of the fact that it hasn't be proved that he did it.

First, not all of Africa is fucked.
And despite what this article says, I believe colonialism IS a factor - depending on how it's done. You'll notice that most of the fucked up parts of Africa are old French colonies. Contrary to the English, who would form a local elite and export many of their citizens (I think 20 million British citizens were dispatched throughout the Empire), the French would usually install their own elite that would largely profit from the locals. When they would leave, they usually left behind a huge political void, only to be filled by poorly educated corrupted locals. A french historian actually said that if Canada had not been conquered by England, it would've been "just another french colony".
So yes, I think there was some very bad managments from some of the colonial powers, like the french, the belgians, the spanish, etc.
And I know this has nothing to do with poverty, but I have friends from Africa and white people who lived in francophone parts of the continent and I can assure you that most of us have much to learn from Africans about human relations. They're not all machette swinging retards like most people percieve them. Only Haitians are :-P

my theory? lack of education in any sort of useful form. the feed the children kids get stuff like reading and writing. but honestly in africa that's not really all that important because how many of them are going to be financial analysts or math majors or rocket scientists. it ain't gonna happen. they're going to be farmers that need to know about responsible parenting and military defense strategies. that doesn't really go together but that's their world. africa doesn't have anything as leverage for trading with the outside world other than basically diamonds and in some places oil. it's a continent of rampant ignorance. it's just bassackwards.

this is a podung area isn't it? I doubt they have 24 hour guards over these babies, and I know they don't have more than one, so whoever was watching the baby could have done it if they were even being watched.
Even the biggest sickos in the world are going to be a little emotionally drained after having a baby, I think they would wait more than 24 hrs for the baby raping. It was probably the hospital covering up inept nurses, or it was probably someone from the hospital and they are covering their ass. Hospitals aren't known for being very open when they or one of their staff fucks up. And once something like this is even suggested you can bet step one will be to blame the parents and then look at the situation.
Tey might be guilty, but from the info in that story i am much more inclined to think it was the hospital overreacting or they were actually the cause and are covering it up.

It was, but Tennesse is in the middle of the Bible belt, and witing a story like that is a way to garner attention. I don't want to believe that somebody would rape their own daughter, but my mother worked at Children's Hospital for most of her working life, and they were always VERY professional around the babies and young children.

Well I could be wrong but I doubt the would take rectal temperatures on babies. They hardly ever od it to adults. Second I have faith that hospitals wouldn't let inexperianced nurses alone with newborns. My guess is they probably are between apartments, either because the broke the rules, or couldn't afford to live in one anymore.

i wouldn't put that much faith in hospitals. look at the numerous malpractice suits they get a year. also they do take infants temperatures rectally. also, i would expect way more damage to be done to the child if there was a rape. unless the guy had a really small gigglestick that is.
i'm not completely dismissing the possibility of a rape, but the journalist who wrote this is completely non-objective. it was written to infuriate the reader, which it has. not only you, but a lot of people, including myself the first read through, have been disgusted and angered by it.

also, this article is very biased. the hospital called the police for a 'possible rape'. skin tears could have been caused by a inexperienced nurse taking a temperature rectally. i'm not saying rape is not a possibility.
the writer is trying to convince the reader that the parents are white trash, stating that they were living in a motel. could they not have been in between apartments?
