Today I saw first hand the carnage that can be caused by cars. Lemme tell you all about it.
I was dropping my friend off from the computing course im studing at. About one or two blocks from his place is a busy round-a-bout, and I was waiting behind a ute when it happened. Out of nowhere my mate was like "Holy Shit!" stared at the other side of the road.
I looked to my right (we drive in the left hand lane) and I saw a SUV with a completly crumpled red/orange bike hanging off the front bumper. Somebody's lying on the ground, dosent seem to be moving. My mate jumps out of the car, rushes over to him. Im not too sure what to do, I start to undo my seatbelt but I relize I'm on the second busiest street in town... and yep theres three cars behind me.
Theres no traffic coming from my right, ('coz of the crash) so I take a left turn and park on the side of the road. I hop out of the car and a middle-aged guy's just walking towards the accident, he says somthing to me about the crash. I ask him if hes got a cell phone, he does.
We walk across the street to where a small crowd has already gathered. Recko (my mate) has been talking to the guy, and someone else is calling 111. I see the cyclist for the first time. Safe to sayhe wont be on a bike anytime soon, or ever. He looks fine from the waist up, but his legs are a different story.
At first it looks like they have been twisted 360', its not that extreme, but its close. His left leg is hanging almost at a 90' angle to the rest of his body. The foot is twisted... /wrong/. His right leg is almost as bad, and I saw it 'twitch' a few times. Really made me feel quesey, but I couldnt stop staring. A group of 10 or 11 people were standing round him, I didn't hear what they were saying. The guy I talked to before, who I asked of I had a cell phone, was muttering about how "you dont see things like this very often. Jesus christ".
Recko tells us that the kid says he cant feel his legs. (yeah it was a kid/teenager, biking home from high school. Cell phone guy : "you wouldn't want to if they look like that, jesus christ!"
Me and Recko stand round for a minute or so, but its clear that theres not much we can do, the ambulence is on its way, and luckly the hospitals nearby. There about 15 people standing about anyway.
We walked back to the car, and I dropped him of home.

This wasn't amazingly well written and something was lacking, but pretty good all the same.

Jeebus. I saw someone jump in front of a train last year. Something you don't want to see at 8am on a Monday morning..

Most people that experience a tramatic event usually end up with it vivedly burned into their memory.
For some reason though, what happened earlier today is already fading away like all the other mundane crap that happens in a normal day. (??? weird huh? whats up with that)
So this was more just to get what happened written down and stored somewhere, but I appriceate the constructive critism, ect ect.

Elaboration on why you felt unable to tear your eyes away from his fucked up leg. That'd be good.
Reflections on the event? Musings as to why certain portions of the event seem more memorable than others? I've heard stories about people who cannot honestly remeber any of the sounds that went with the event, like they just deleted it from their memory. Stuff like that.

Not rubbish but generally lacking. Needed some kind of comment maybe?
You did a reasonable job of painting the scene and conveying your general shock though, less is more and all that.
Keep trying.
