As some of you already know I was in a car accident last Saturday night. Those of you, who didn't know, please spare me the 'too bad you didn't die' comments because obviously I'm alive and well despite a few aches and pains. I'm invincible because I'm bionic as you know.
Anyway, I was driving along on 84 West in Hartford, traveling in the right lane at around 1:30 AM. I was meeting a friend for some late night chow when I was rear ended by a red truck. My car veered to the left, spun around, did a 360 and banked towards the right of the highway. The truck never stopped. When the police arrived on the scene I told them what happened and they agreed that I was hit by an unknown vehicle. Despite this they hand me over a warning ticket saying that I was driving too fast. Huh? I get hit from behind and 'I' was driving too fast? This makes no sense to me, but whatever that isn't what this is about.
So, needless to say, my car is totaled and I need to purchase a new vehicle and I have no as to what I should purchase. My Infiniti I30 was without question the best car I've ever bought. One more payment and the car was mine. This is what is the most frustrating to me. One more freaking payment!!!
The Kelly Blue Book value of my car, based on mileage, year and condition is $8,500.
So I'm hoping to get somewhere in that vicinity back from my insurance company. Still I have no clue what my next car should be. Should I purchase another used Infiniti or buy something else? I certainly can not afford a brand new 2007 model but I can afford a new 2007 Maxima. Should I get another used Infiniti with low mileage for the same price as a brand new Maxima or Altima or Honda Accord?
I'm in a quandary.

Too bad you didn't die.
Just don't get a Saturn. I'm not a big fan anymore given my catastrophic breakdown in the 92 degree summer heat last year, and how it went through parts. Yes, it's my fault I ignored the car's protest, but after a vehicle makes dying noises for a long time and keeps fucking up every part you throw at it, you stop taking it seriously.

Shadow, I recently did the same. But spent more. I needed new breaks, two new tires (now flat), front struts(*sp), Rotors, an alignment and then went and spent $95 to re-register my car after spending $20 for an emissions test.

I drove an '01 Jetta with 112K miles on it. So far I've had the window issue (3 of my windows have fallen into the door), my rear brakes disintegrated at ~28K miles (they used the wrong alloy in the brakes) and my catalytic converter died ~90K. That sucked. Other than that, it's been great! I'm planning on driving it for at least another 100K miles.
Sorry about the accident Tiger. I hate 84! I've been taken trips between UConn (essentially) and Waterbury for a few weeks now. Yay driving through Hartford!

It's funny how different real life is from TV. On TV there would be a full investigation complete with paint analysis and tire tread molds and the asshole who hit you would be found within an hour. Naturally, once arrested he would sing like a canary.

Ha. So true and I've thought about this as well. I think if I had been seriously injured, hired a lawyer or in anyone else had been injured there would be an all out investigation.
