I am trying to alienate myself from everyone here. When people are comfortable with talking to me, it seems they are comfortable with giving me work too. I submit racism in the workplace and how to make everyone around you squirm.
One of the sales reps I work with was telling a story of dealing with a Mexican immigrant. This immigrant, as you can maybe guess, spoke very little English. The words that cam out of this mans mouth were along the lines of:
"Why don't dem Mexicans learn English? I speak it good, so it can't be that hard. It don't make no sense to come to a country if you don't speak the language."
This is spelled as it sounded and right on with his apparent English speaking abilities. Now, we are all guilty of a bad conjugation or an extra comma here or there, but listening to him completely grate away the English set my teeth on edge and made me want to rip out my throat so I could throw something at him.
The place I work for is completely filled with Irish, German and Italian mutts. All Anglo and Christian. The darkest person is one of the sales reps after a weekend golf trip in the summer. I grew up in a predominately black neighborhood and know when it's OK to tell racist jokes. It's when I'm with my black friends I have known for the last five years and they say something about me not knowing how to dance or liking to wear ties or something. But I don't tell them at work because I'm not wearing a sign that says "I'm cool with black people," no do I tell them to any person I see after a glance over my shoulder.
When overseas, I lived with a Mexican, Puerto Rican, German, myself as Irish and mixed person all in the US Army. We were an EO (Equal Opportunity) complaint waiting to happen. We would say some things that would offend South Park characters, but it was alright. We knew we were only joking with each other.
So now I plan my attack. The next nigger or Mexican joke that comes my way I plan to strike with witty retorts, accusations or racism and finally disgust until I hear people apologize to me to make themselves feel better. I guess I just feel that if you aren't speaking Iroquois or Sioux then you can't really complain about immigration.

I'm hoping this was a joke. I didn't like it. Racism is a state of mind that needs to be eradicated, not dwelled upon. Thats my opinion and I just didn't enjoy the post.
