Welcome to Round 1 of Uber-Go-Round ©™. The randomly drawn genre of the round is Action/Adventure. You will find your assigned titles below. Please be sure to include UGR in the title of your post and link it here to make it easier to locate.
So that everyone has to write the same number of posts in order to make the final I have to do things a little differently due to the number of match ups we have. There are two Free Lifes up for grabs. One Free Life will be awarded after round one and one after round two, they will be awarded to the highest rated loser of the rounds and will allow that poster to procede to the next round. Tie breakers apply in the same fashion for the Free Lifes as they do for regular matches. Because of the Free Lifes each round will be randomly paired. The final will once again be a three way write off for the ultimate grand prize.
A word on ratings for the comp. First, I am not opposed to competitors rating each other's posts as long as it is done fairly and with good will. If you are going to rate your competition please , especially if you're going negative, take the time to explain your rating or else just wait until the round is over. Second, if there are drive by -2s let me know and I will look at it, if it looks like it could affect the round I'll figure around them to determine the winner of the round.
Summary of rules:
1. Create a post in the genre specified using the title assigned to your match up.
2. Winner will be highest rated poster of each match up. Standard tie breakers apply
3. A Free Life will be awarded to the highest rated loser of rounds one and two.
4. All match ups will be randomly paired.
5. All titles will be randomly selected and assigned.
6. The "genre" for each round will be randomly selected.
7. all rules are subject to change but rarely do. If something is unclear please let me know.

I would like to change how the winner of the matches is determined. I would like to put up a post today to solicit votes and anyone who wants to vote would just need to vote for one or the other just as you would in Ubermadness. I am hoping that by doing this we can minimize the impact of irrelevant ratings altogether so that everyone is on an equal playing field. Granted if someone's really got your number and is really dedicated to fucking with you they could just vote for the other guy but I think that less likely then them giving you crappy irrellevant ratings

That's funny, I had visions of her tears being like feathers and that they'd fall to the ground at half the normal speed of a regular feather. When one of her tears would fall out, it wouldn't hit the ground until a full minute or more had passed.

As far as adjusting the rating, you're right; as far as Uber is concerned I cannot do anything to it and contrary to what you want others to believe your noble argument is, I wouldn't want to. I've had -2 fans, hell you've been one of them. I also know that when you actually read something that you will give it props if that's what it deserves. I am however trying to run a contest where the stories are rated on thier quality, so when a rating like your rating on wildcat's post is encountered it tends to fuck up the competition because your vendetta has nothing to do with the quality as you've very clearly admitted.
But....
As far as this competition is concerned I am able to adjust the outcome if it should be necessary. When I asked for participants I said I would moderate potential problems like these, just as I have in the past. Each of the comps I've run has been drama free and everyone has played well together. It's not because of me but because the competitors have all been serious and have all worked hard to present thier best. I'll once again point out that I have not had to adjust ratings in the past, it always shakes out. Obviously there's still time for the ratings to change either way but it has worked out in the past and I doubt this time will be any different. what the fuck do you care, you're not in it, you don't participate. Just ignore them if you have to or give us all -2s. I'd prefer you just left us alone but go ahead and be a fuckwad if you have to.
Shlong, present it as you like. Whether you like it or not this is NOT about arrogance it's about trying to run a competition that's fair. This is not about ONE person it's about eighteen competitors having a fair chance to proceed. I've seen you bitch about the level of crap on here, why not embrace this concept as it's proven more than once to generate some very good stuff.

But I think it takes a lot of nerve on the contest moderator to assume he can read MY or anyone elses intent on any rating.

To reiterate. I have run several of these. I like to think the reason I get entrants is because they shake out fairly smoothely and I work hard to be fair. When a post has ten +2s and one no comment -2 from a user who is known to drop the "auto -2" how else would you interpret that? In your case you actually qualified it as the "auto -2" therby removing any potential confusion as to why you rated it so diffefrently from everyone else.
Incidently you'll notice that it's already starting to not matter, it usually shakes out and I don't have to adjust them. It's still early but I stand by my willingness to review ratings in order to present the fairest competition I can.

Shlong, you know we don't really do the hate thing, unless it is deserved, but I think you are misunderstanding this a little.
The ratings, whatever they may be, count, as long as they are given with reason. I don't mean that you can write "-2 you are a cunt" and expect it to count. If you genuinely dislike the story, which I haven't yet read, give your "genuine" reasons and then your rating will count.
The idea of adjusting things comes from a different reasoning.
For example...
If Jay Peg was competeing, certain people would come along and drop -2's on him just because he was Jay Peg. I have always considered, and witnessed, you to post an honest review, even on posts from people who you don't exactly get along with.
If it is good, no matter who posts, you will give it a good rating.
Hope that clarifies the "adjustment" factor.

"auto -2" carries no credence whatsoever. As much as you try to take the high argument here you know as well as I do that some users automatically give -2s to particular people. you happened to actually qualify yours as such, further supporting my argument. In a contest, having a certain following who consistently drop -2s on you is certainly a disadvantadge.
Let me put it to you another way shlongman. I have always offered the opporunity to review drive by ratings and possibly adjust them. I have never actually had to do so because it has, thus far made no difference, but if someone is put at a disadvantadge by random crap ratings I will adjust them.
Whatever drives you to fuck with people for the sake of fucking with them should not affect the results of a contest. If you're petty enough to believe that your "auto -2" is more credible than me removing its effect on the outcome of the competition than you are far denser than I thought. I wouldn't have participants if they didn't know I was fair and want this to go as smoothly as possible. in short, eat a dick.
