The Apple Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree
A collection of random stupid quotes by G. Bush Senior

At his 1988 nomination:
"Competence is a narrow ideal. Competence makes the trains run on time but doesn't know where they are going."

"For seven and a half years I've worked alongside President Reagan. We've had triumphs. Made some mistakes. We've had some sex...uh...setbacks."

"I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don't always agree with them."

"Some reporters said I don't have any vision. I don't see that."

"It has been said by some cynic, maybe it was a former president, "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." Well, we took them literally--that advice,
as you know. But I didn't need that because I have Barbara Bush."

"Don't just ask me what's wrong with our legal system. Check with that famous enforcer of American justice. I'm not talking about Oliver Wendell Holmes or
John Marshall. I mean someone even more famous than that: Hulk Hogan."

"I think I've got to do better in making clear what the message is, and I think I can do better. But I think there's so much noise out there that I've got to
figure out how to make it clearer that we are for the things that I have advocated that would help."

"I'm not going to discuss what I'm not going to bring up. Even if I don't discuss it, I'm not going to discuss it"

"It's no exaggeration to say that the undecideds could go one way or another."

"Please don't look at the part of the glass that is only half full."

"I can't think of any existing law that's in force that wasn't before."

Tour of Auschwitz:
"Boy, they were big on crematoriums, weren't they?"

After a US warship shot down an Iranian airliner killing 290 people:
"I will never apologize for the United States of America - I don't care what the facts are."

"Hey, listen. I'm a member of the NRA. You're hurting my feelings, as they say in China."

"Appeasement does not work. As was the case in the 1930s, we see in Saddam Hussein an aggressive dictator threatening his neighbors."

"All I was doing was appealing for an endorsement, not suggesting you endorse it."

No wonder GB junior didn't listen to his father's advice on Iraq:
"To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day hero...
assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an un-winnable urban
guerilla war. It could only plunge that part of the world into even greater instability."

I'm all up for a bit of Bush bashing.

You yanks voted him in though. Twice. What the f*ck is wrong with you people?

---------------

Technically I believe less than 50% of us did and that was the dumb half, but hey...good point...way to be 'on the ball'
-------------------------------------------------------------

Badass is correct here. It's no lie the election was stolen. JFK jr is preparing to start litigation soon:

"Appeasement does not work. As was the case in the 1930s, we see in Saddam Hussein an aggressive dictator threatening his neighbors."

----

What was wrong with that one? Sadaam was hostile toward Iran, Kuwait and the Kurdish Nation.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Comparing Saddam to Hitler doesn't seem a bit exaggerated? There are plenty other dictators that would stand up to that test far better.

The man didn't even have the guts to commit suicide.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Who? I mean now you have Iran and North Korea as a big threat with Iraq (pre 2003) isolated and weak, but when Bush Sr was in office that wasn't the case.

North Korea was just starting to starve, and this was before Clinton decided it would be a good idea to feed them with no real concessions.

Iran was effectively cowed, Reagan had settled them down, and they were sick of tangling with Iraq.

I don't know the exact date of the quote so I can't say if it was before or after Saddam had invaded any of his "peaceful" neighbors, butI do know there was talk after that of just letting him do what he wanted. Was he as strong as hitler in the early days of WWII, no but the lesson of stopping someone like that early when it is easier is still valid.

HAHAHAHAHA @ PFF

I was a kid during Bush 1 era, so all this was new to me. This one was an especially good find:

No wonder GB junior didn't listen to his father's advice on Iraq:
"To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day hero...
assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an un-winnable urban
