A lot can happen in a year.

The 4th of July weekend is nearly upon us, and it shall mark the one year anniversary of my drunk of an ex girlfriend getting shitfaced on 100 proof vodka and having a pseudo-lesbian experience.

I have been in a funk, and I don't know that it's a recent thing. I really think I have been in a funk since then. It kind of comes and goes, but the whole incident kind of profoundly fucked my shit up. Now is as good a time as any to take stock of gains and losses since a year ago, and maybe convince myself I am a lot better off now than I was a year ago.

I've lost nearly 10% of my body weight. A year ago, I weighed 230 pounds. Today I weighed in at 205. I have been losing weight steadily for the past 4 months (Yeah, we broke up in March, not last July like we fucking should have) and tomorrow my brother and I go to scope out the Y center. Not having a job can be a good thing if I can chill there for 3 hours a day or so. I will hit my target weight (180) by the end of August if I can.

I'm alone. That's not as good. I am getting to the point where I am happy with myself. I started out missing her intenselty, then it was more of a situation where I hated sleeping alone, then I just didn't like not having anyone to confide in like I did to her, then it gradually dulled to a sort of "My dick can't suck itself" sort of a regret. Now I am at the point where I am ready to meet someone else, but not because I NEED someone else.

I started doing things and meeting people I would not have otherwise. With her, my Bass would have sat under my bed until I sold it. Without her I picked it up, learned to play the shit out of it over the last 4 months and decided to dick around with a buddy of mine learning Spinal Tap tunes and looking for a drummer.

With her I drank at her house nearly every night. All those 32 ounce woodchuck ciders and jaeger shots packed padding on the waistline, and I mostly just got drunk and blurted out private business, so it's no wonder the last 5 months we dated kind of sucked ass. Without her I started going out to my favorite bar with a group of friends every monday night, not drinking pretty much any other day of the week, drinking a lot less, and generally meeting 3 or 4 new people every week. I met more people in my last 2 months as an undergrad than I did the previous 3 and a half years at school. I made friends with some wonderful people that I would never have met.

I'm going to a better school than I would have if I had followed her to Boston. I am paying about 25% of what I would have paid for rent and tuition had I gone out there. I am staying on the campus that I love and I get a few more years with these people I waited way too long to meet.

And yet, despite the way this list seems to indicate I am much better off. I don't feel like it.

I need something to bring it all together. I don't know what.

My posts are shit, I know it. They'll get better.

Hooray for moving on! Maybe chicks like her just exist to make guys eventually become better people... would have been better if you could have skipped the whole shithouse relationship bit tho...

What is the world coming to? Schlongy is the one who is supposed to tell me no one gives a shit, not woody.

Also, I hope I don't meet someone when I least expect it. I expect to meet someone in law school. Does that mean I won't get laid for 3 yesrs?

You're much better off than 10%....TAKE SOME CREDIT. Most guys would mope around their apartment,drinking and stuffing their face while whining about being lonely to anyone who'd listen... a sure-fire way to ensure that they'll NEVER find anyone else (unless they're hinding under the bed behind the three-week old pizza box, 6-pack of empties and dirty underoos).
You're moving on, getting your shit together, improving yourself and having a life..someone new (and better) will find you when you lease expect it.
