Dear Random Person,

Well, it's been over a year and a half now since I set out on my quest with friends Scott Wolfe and Colby Townsend to rearange and remake the entire Nevermind album, and I can finally say it is finished. I have personally spent over 500 hours on this in total and, to me, it was worth every minute.

In the near future I plan on printing up an extremely limited number of copies of this project on CD or LP format, signing and numbering them, and either giving them away for cost, or charging $1 above cost with all proceeds going to charity. It won't be any more than $4 or $5 in all. If you're interested in getting on the growing waiting list for a copy, email me at electrictoothsyndrome.at.gmail.com with "Nevermind Order" in the subject and I will contact you back when copies become available to arrange for delivery. Otherwise, please enjoy the mp3 version below for free. If you like the music and would like to show your appreciation, please donate to http://worldvision.org/ or http://www.ucsusa.org/

So without further ado, I give you the final song in the project, "In Bloom", and the rest of the songs remixed and remastered for optimal quality. I'm not a professional when it comes to mastering, so I might tweak a couple things here and there before going to print, but this is essentially the final version. If you have any of these already, I suggest you redownload the new version since they've all been remastered and now include ID3 tags for easy identification in iTunes, etc.

Peace and thanks,

-brad (ets)

Thanks guys. I appreciate that.

One day maybe I'll do "Milk It" just for shits and giggles...or maybe "very Ape". Or "Radio Friendly"...

hmmm... We'll see.

I was going to give a zero after listening to "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but then I went on a listened to "Come As You Are."

Synth crap....
Vocal, whine....
Lame guitar line changes...

Fact is, you took all the pain and emotion out of a set of songs from a band that made it on the singer's pain and emotion.

Congrats, you ruined one of the greatest albums off all time.

(Fact is, you never should of tried. You can't win here.)

I've listened to all of them and...meh I can't tell, but there's something that's bugging me.

Although I do recognise the amount of effort put into this, and I do appreciate your take on the instrumental part.

It's the vocals, I think. They sound repetitive to me. You tried, much to your honor, to give a twist to the vocal melodies, but somehow, it sounds the same every song.

Anyway, that might just be me fussying. You see I'm a huge fan of Nirvana, always has been.

Why nevermind, may I ask?

---------------------

I'm sorry you feel that way. I realize this isn't something that will immediately grasp most Nirvana fans. It's not coming from the same punk roots as Nirvana. I can't really explain with any accuracy the process involved in recreating the songs, but it wasn't a mental thing so much as an emotional one. I've said all along that this wasn't meant to be compared to the originals. I have a lot of folk influences. I share at least a few common influences with Kurt Cobain, namely Leonard Cohen. The versions have more or less been filtered through my mind, which is awash in that kind of melodic sensibility. That also explains why pretty much every song has harmony vocals all the way through.

This should help explain things a little more if you really want to know: http://www.electrictoothsyndrome.com/project.html

That being said, I got a 404 error trying to download "Something in the Way." Might want to check it out.

And, I'm still up for a weekend jam session anytime. You know how to get a hold of me...anytime, ETS.

Hell, we could do a joint session with Shlongy and call it the "Electric Thorn Laben Project."

Great effort, but to be honest I can't stand these Nevermind remakes. The vocals irritate me in the same way that Layne Staley's do, the droning is embarassing, and the folksy time signatures get repetitive after one or two songs.

However, your original stuff is much better. I went in to the parent directories on your site so I've got several full ETS albums on my mp3 player now. I like Sessions and what is termed 'Loose Stuff' the best (can't remember if that was your term or mine).

The cheque is in the mail, figuratively speaking.

Outstanding re-calibration of every instrument- particularly the bassline/drums. Unlike most other songs in this tribute, I'd call this Nirvana Lite: though not in a derogatory sense. The hard edges were left to memory while you viewed the work from a different angle, and something beautiful came from it.

Somehow i know you've taken on the Pixies, I'd enjoy listening to your take on them, i'm sure.

I hope you've got permission to attempt to sell those covers

---------------

You don't have to get permission to release a cover song under United States copyright law. You merely have to accredit the original artist and register the titles with the appropriate publisher. But since this project is non-profit, I don't have to do anything but accredit the original composer, in this case, Kurt Cobain for his lyrics.
