Regarding - China steps up controls on blogs
http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/internet/06/30/china.censorship.ap/index.html
Repeatedly we see people complaining about there own governments action. When we tend not to realize how some countries are far worse off. No, I'm not talking about all those 3rd world countries; I'm talking about a major power like China. Just read the above article, China's Cai Wu, director of the Information Office of China's Cabinet had made a statement saying "China launched a campaign in February to "purify the environment" of the Internet and mobile communications". What a fucking joke, I can't understand how in the largest populated country in the world, where more than 3\4ths of the people are crapped on daily allow something like this to occur. I know, I know, your thinking the same thing, revolution. The real question lies in what will that country turn in to when that day does come, and trust me it will. I'm curious what you all think about China's actions as a government, I'd like to hear your comments and see if anyone agrees or disagrees with China's actions...
Beware, a rumble is heard in the distance.
Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite.
John Kenneth Galbraith (1908 - 2006)
Communism is like prohibition, it's a good idea but it won't work.

Not to mention, China is going to invade Taiwan at some time and we will be helpless to do anything about it because our government is a bunch of shithead cowards when it comes to facing off a country that is evil but has military power.
It is pathetic that we don't recognize Taiwan as a nation just to piss off those commie fucks. They essentially are their own country but we can't "recognize" them for the mere fact it would piss China off. Fuck em'. Taiwan is one of the most FREE nations on the face of the planet and, in some ways, moreso than the USA.

Good point, but I'm not to sure that China wants to take that step, they would have major problems with NATO, probably lose there veto power in it and after all is said and done a small if not large nuclear stand off would begin, in my opinion, just give Taiwan about 20 ICBMs that can hold 30-40 warheads each, one "aging" nuclear sub and let them be there own fucking deterrent.

The communists are our friends. China has made great strides to better the quality of life for its people in recent years. I think we have to appreciate the difficulties the Chinese government faces and be understanding of the intricacies of managing a country of a billion people.

That is an understatement.

I think that China is going to have a hard time maintaining the level of control they like to exert over their people while moving more and more towards capitalism.
but then again, they'll just run over the dissidents with tanks

China is not turning to capitalism.
Shanghai, Tianjin, Dalian, Xiamen and Shenzhen are (and a few others i forget). These cities are called "Special Economic Zones" and are immune to China's tyranni--- I mean communist economic laws.
People say "China is doing this" or "China is doing that" but the country needs to be seen as three distinct parts (4 if you include HK and Macau).
1) The SEZ's. These are where there is an abundance of technology, wealth and relative to most of China; free speech. These areas (Shanghai comes to mind) make so much money by exploiting the rest of China they have nothing to complain about, so free speech for these guys is tolerated, because it's generally within party lines.
2) The West. West China is in the 18th century. They basically live the lives of peasants. The capitalists in the SEZ's make their money by using these guys as cheap, slave labour.
3) The East. The new emerging middle class of China. This is where the future of China lies. At the moment the Reds are doing their best to simultaneously build this middle class, and keep it under control. An emerging middle class however is always; ALWAYS where rebellion comes from. Read any history book. The Reds know this and are doing everything in their power to see if they can create an educated class that doesn't consider the CCP tyrants. This censorship is one method.

Actually the chinese governemnt is quite popular within China
And it beleives in freedom of speech.
Just take it literally.
you can sit around your dinner table with your mates discussion the many different ways in which Hu sucks off goatsand the governemnt wont mind.
(though I imagine Hu in person would be a little cheesed)
So long as you don't write it down. Or record audio or video of it. and there aren't more than 4 people (including you) present.

Why not five? :(

Ya, it would be a very bloodly revolution, unless some of the military takes part in it, you never know what could happen. But I'm sure the USA would find a way to butt into it and make matters worse.....

China already had a revelotion. Men with hunting rifles Vs. armies with muzzle loaders is one thing, but unarmed students Vs. T80 main battle tanks....
Military Trivia:
Q. What do tank crew men call infantry?
A. Scrunchies
-------------------------------
That was a protest that those students were doing, not a revolution I think.
