An ex-CIA spook who worked under George I when he headed the spy agency in the 70's induced a heart attack because Lay sent word to the White House through back channels that he wanted a pardon in exchange for his silence. (i.e.; no book - there were plenty of offers)
A friend of mine works in the Denver office of the FBI, and there's been a lot of strange activity whenever Lay visited his place in Aspen.
Lay knew a lot about campaign finance irregularites in 2000 and Enron's influence on the energy bill that the Supreme Court recently ruled VP Cheney could keep secret. He also had plenty of info from when Bush was governor of Texas that could embarrass the President.
Lay planned to use this leverage for the maximum benefit before the upcoming elections, because he could not stomach the thought of a long jail term.
I could be wrong, so here's a picture of my monkey:

One of Mr. Lay's turds looked better, smelled better and had more intelligence than you and your family combined.

I think his death is a sham. He's got the capital AND the connections to pull it off.
Obviously he's closely involved with the Bush administration - he "raised" money for Bush's campaign for Christsakes.
Politics and Big Business are fuck buddies.
That's nothing new.
