Let me start this by saying I'm pretty alternative... Not "normal" by most peoples' measures. But I have a real issue with grown up Goths.
Anyone who's been to an alternative club will have seen them - those for whom the teens are a distant memory, hanging out and pretending to be down with the kids.
They're dressed to the nines in totally gothic gear, leathers and PVC, with all the make-up. The guys look like they've killed their mothers and put them in the freezer for later use. The women look like they've been dumped by Dracula for being to dead looking.
Goth is a stage most people go through. It's a rebellion against parental control, or a way of trying to be cool. The difference is that most of us realise how sad it is, and grow out of it. Those over the age of twenty, who still do the gothic thing are some of the saddest people alive. It should be a warning signal when your "friends" are a good decade younger than you...
The other thing that annoys me is the "more gothic than thou" attitude. What's so great about being gothic? It doesn't make you special, well it does - but not in a good way. You're twenty five, wear over-priced badly-made Goth brand clothes, and live at home with mum and dad because no one will give you a job. You think you're better than me? You cut yourself and show the marks to all your tweenie friends as proof of your gothic status. If that isn't attention seeking more appropriate to five year old I don't know what is. You may be more gothic than me but that's nothing to be proud of.
One of my favourite hobbies, for no one "gothic" will admit there's a goth band out there that they've never heard of, is to rave about a "fantastic German band called OmpaLoumpa. They're really industrial Gothic. Very post-punk, and dark. Totally industrial vibe." The other day someone told me that they'd listened to a couple of their albums, but thought that they'd "sold-out". The most remarkable part of that is that I made the band up.
If I have to listen to one more Goth explain that they're on the dole and live with the parents because "they don't agree with the government", "can't compromise their lifestyle", or "don't agree with capitalism" I'm gonna puke. You agree with the government enough to go on the dole....
I know this is a gross generalisation and that somewhere there must be a grown up Goth who contributes to society - but I haven't met them yet.

did you do a definitive survey on this shit? is this published in some medical journal someplace? its another dumbfuck generalization made by a dumbfuck. what the fuck is an emo anyways? a haircut and a cd collection dont fucking define a person any more than stupid fucking clothes, metal lunchboxes and clown makeup.
as for goths living interesting independant lives... moreso than "preppys who did it the right way" id like to see some sort of deffinition that sepperates the two or make one more interesting than the other. and aside from that, you could be living the most independant excelent life in the world but in my eyes, youre wearing chains, leathers and clown makeup and you look like a fucking fool. whether you are or not doesnt fucking matter, wash your face and live your life without the dipshit costume. if you say "this is who i am" then i feel sorry for you that you cant be yourself without the stupid looking get up. sucks to be you.
"we're all sheep, we just belong to different flocks." what the fuck? sounds like the justification of somone afraid to do their own thing and leave it at that.

Like I said - I'm sure there's a Goth somewhere who contributes to society, and is a mature, functioning adult. I just don't know them. I'm writing about the odious twats that seem to circulate Plymouth. They're people you can't avoid if you like any form of alternative music - because they come and whine at you about how they want to die/it's so unfair/what ever their current pathetic situation is.

emos are whiney, goths are mean. there's a totally different mindset. i could how you'd get the dark clothing and shit confused but they're different.
if you listen to music that's categorized as alternative i can't see how you'd run into goths on that scene, at least not on an anywhere near regular basis. if you mean music that's not pop, that's completely different and a lot broader.

I never went through a goth stage thank the lord I went through a hippie stage and just smoked reefer and took acid alot. The best advice I could possibly give you is if you don't like it don't pay attention to it. Kind of like a scrape that would heal if you would stop picking the scab.

actually for anyone out of highschool it obviously isn't a stage is it. doing anything for solely for the sake of rebellion is retarded. if it was a phase to you, you're stupid because you did something just cuz a) you thought it'd make you different and b) because someone else was doing it and you probably thought they'd like you for it. on top of that, any goths i do know that are over 20, all live on their own with more functional lives than most of those preppy dipshits that did everything the right way to whom abercrombie is not just a phase it's a way of life.
you probably are completely normal and you live in obscurity you're just pissed at that. being goth, punk, prep, alternative whatever is just one more classification people put themselves into. even an outsider is in a group. we're all sheep, we just belong to different herds. if you can't see that you're a twat.
and you're not special for any good reasons either. you're not even special for the standard ones like retardation or being a cripple.
emos cut themselves more than goths, and eating disorders and coke addictions are no better than cutting. self destructive is self destructive, drinking yourself to death and doing lines for fun is just as fucking stupid.
i will agree, faking knowing about something just to impress someone is retarded. however, you have no idea either whether it's real or not when you pull a name out of thin air. chances are if it's that cliche, it's probably real. yes i realize what an oompa loompa is. if you go out of your way to do this, you're an idiot. only middleschoolers think of ways to point out how much better they are than other people as a form of entertainment.

My niece used to be Goth. She went to her Junior prom in a standard prom dress looking like a regular Junior prom date, except for the small gothic cross in one ear and the utter lack of a smile. When asked how it was, she responded with rolled eyes. Good, I guess.

This sucks. This whole groups and cliques society we live in sucks cock, people are who they are and wear what they want. Fuck off with lumping everyone into groups. The world is just getting over racial segregation and now you cunts have created your own. To the point my 11 year old twin brother in laws are "deciding" which group to be in! It's not even about what you want anymore, it's which group you belong to.
