Nerd, Bookworm, Freak .... Call me what you will. I love to read
My love for reading goes far beyond the norm. I read food labels, fine print; I even read my prospectuses for crying out loud. Perhaps that will damage my credibility when I say: people should read more.
Reading will get you far, and I'm not just talking about grades, though it will get you that. Every class you ever take has a textbook. Even for programming, even for math it helps if you can understand what you are reading. But of course, it will get you so much more than that.
Reading can give you life experience. You can't lead 1000 lives, but you can read 1000 lives.
Reading can bring you joy, enlightenment, maybe even a little cash if you can turn what you read into profit.
It doesn't matter much what it is you read. The more you read, the more you will find yourself reading other things. Even if you start with those black and white papers about the wolf boy born when his mother mated with a dog. Eventually - hopefully, that reading will lead you somewhere. Never be afraid of page counts, or lack of pictures. Just find what you like, pick it up, and read it.
If you already love to read, I can make a few recommendations I think:
National Geographic - a great way to keep up, with a focus on stories, not headlines. Plus, you can really learn something.
Steven King - Story telling at its finest. The Girl Who Love Tom Gordon reminded me of that.
Beatrix Potter - If you're too old for this stuff, shoot yourself right now, likewise Scary Stories.
Cheese ball garbage - whether it's some hokey western, a ridiculous romance, or A Palm for Mrs. Polifax, read something light, quick, and downright indulgent. There's no shame in that.
Classics - they are what they are for a reason. Vanity Fair, Treasure Island, Brave New World, Origin of Species, the books which have shaped the literary, scientific, whatever world, books which carry weight.
But don't, don't be like me. I read too many books at once, way too many. How many? About 12? I think?

You can't lead 1000 lives, but you can read 1000 lives.
I've got enough problems living my live the way I want to.
Reading is great, writing even better but nothing beats sex.

You left out Bazooka Joe comics, one of the world's great unappreciated art forms.

I'm only doing this tasteless linkwhoring because I wrote that hoping for some criticism. 2 reviews? Come on, that's goddamnfucking ridiculous. You should be ashamed of yourself Uber.
