My name is Mary. I wrote that first because I had to start this somehow. It's not like I needed to figure that out, but some kind of words just had to go on the first line of the first page, first. Those are the first ones that popped into my head for this. So they are just kind of icebreakers for me to enter the virgin page and then to get it on with my story, or not.

Since writing isn't something that I've ever been trained to do, my style is whatever looks good to me. So, if something looks just plain wrong to you, remember that it is not. It's my rules that I'm using, and rules that are mine can break your rules, anytime. How could I write my story, just the way I want it, if I had to follow some rules, that who knows who, made up ages ago, and totally without a clue of what I want to do right now. Would that mean that if I invented a brand new rule first, then everybody would have to obey mine. No way they would. They probably wouldn't think I was special enough to even worry about me and my new rule.

Making up rules for doing this kind of stuff is really dumb anyway. If you are going to do creativity, the only rule should be that you aren't allowed to use any. Unless of course they are your own made up rules. You could then make up a rule for anything you wanted to do. You could even do this. Make up a rule for something that's never been done before. Then see if you can follow it. If you don't, you can redo that rule so you did.

Though I'm anxious to relate the story of an unexpectedly unique situation that I found myself playing a roll it, at least I've got the introduction done with.

I'd rather have my scrotum slowly sliced open with a red-hot scalpel while Oompa-Loompas go black water rafting in my anus than read that again.

If this was written because of negative reviews you received, my word of advice is don't be too sensitive. The Uber crowd is a critical bunch, especially those who think that they are so freakin awesome at writing and are therefore allowed and able to judge others harshly.

Take and learn from what they say, well the more insightful comments at least, but really, don't worry about it. I believe that writing is something that evolves with time and you can get there. Especially because you're trying.
------------

that right there is not worth listening to after the first line. no one has to be awesome at anything to criticize it. that's like saying you have to be able to sculpt to appreciate michelangelo's david. no one has to appreciate your effort, you're not three it doesn't count for anything now. if you are three well then plus two for you for mastering a keyboard and the internet.

follow the rules. most uber rules are for courtesy. the paragraphs thing, which you seem to have gotten on the first shot are a good idea because one big block of text isn't reader friendly, nor are huge spelling and grammar mistakes. if you're stupid at something you deserve to be let known. this doesn't always mean it will be done nicely. take it in stride or cry yourself to sleep, whatever works. don't blame us for putting yourself out there and expecting to not have a knife held to your metaphorical throat.

if you're going to write something and post it here that means you expect someone else to read it. don't be a cunt flat out and say we don't matter. we're your readers, we do matter. we matter more than your ideals at the start because you need our acceptance to continue. if you're writing just to write and not be judged, keep a diary. if you're writing because you expect someone to read and evaluate you then you need to remember who you're writing for. the audience matters. paid authors obviously don't make any money if they write things no one wants to read.

if someone tells you you suck at something, you just may very well suck at it. just because it's negative doesn't mean it's wrong. just because it's cruel doesn't mean it's wrong either. you may never get better at anything you try at. those are called plateaus. everyone has a limit, some are higher than others, if you hit the wall two stories in we'll tell you. after that, best give up and try a real talent.

you don't seem too stupid yet, but -2 for thinking that you deserve a fluffy pillow at the bottom of your dive into uber.

You are too kind DJ. I just mash the keyboard with my flabby mitts and stuff comes out. It's basically the same as a monkey typing out Mills & Boon at random.

I take back the nasty comment about your mother. I sort of got sidetracked by a butterfly and kind of forgot what I was reviewing. I just saw the -2 I'd given it and, well, the rest is history.

Here's the thing.

These 'rules' are purely themes followed because when followed the end product is better; more legible and able to communicate the ideas of the author better. Those rules can be bent for effect but when doing so it often makes the piece difficult to follow. Pollen by wossname used random made up words and a disjointed sentance structure to create the atmosphere of a world that was very different to our own. But for all wossnames marvellous creation reading the story was like trying to untie an awkward knot.

To use another example; teeth might seem like a wicked thing to have in your belly but the fact is that you'd only end up biting your stomach lining by mistake and ruining your pancreas by spilling acid over it. That's why nature evolved people without teeth in their stomachs. Not because of oppressive rules but because it's less dumb. Do you see?

p.s. your mum smells of rape.

Also "My Name Is Mary" wasn't a response post. It's part of a story. I just cut and pasted a couple of paragraphs.

i dont like rules, either, but they help with coherency. i mean, when you were questioning the reader without putting in question marks? that just doesnt read well. nice idea with the 'creative ingenuity,' but it really didnt work out. keep trying? maybe?

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. Yes I'm new to this but I have already learned that who gives you a review is more important than what the rating is. (a little anyway) I actually like it when certain people are harsh. It means they read it or didn't but took a second to blast me. That's enough.
I write cause it's fun. I just started about a year, and I've never put anything up online before now.
What I write about generally is not what I've posted so far. I just started with what I thought might be funny.
Thanks
