Needed some practice... not my best...
When we think of fear, it's hard not to think of movie style fear first. The serial killer slowly walking towards the helpless victim while light gleams off a way too shiny hunting knife. The Alien monster passes inches from the hiding, terrified soldier. The sound of the undead zombies shuffling down a corridor after teenage victims, thirsting for brains... brains!
Yup. This is the fear we first realize- the semi-unrealistic fear. First off, not all women have big, perfect breasts just like the victims in these movies. More importantly, it's a fear we can revel in, as there is a next to zero chance of any of this actually happening. We go to the theatre to be entertained. We sit safe and sound in the theatre, watching the horrors happen to unreal folk and delight in it. And, if you're like me work on copping a feel or two...
Then there are the possible fears. Rape, car wrecks, muggings, murders, deadly accidents. These things truly happen, but not in a discernable way (at least not in a way that could be graphed, to say, prevent it). We all know ways to lessen the chances, but nothing will eradicate the chances. However, for most of us, we don't think to often upon this stuff.
Sure, people lock their doors at night. Girls may carry mace, travel to bars only with friends, or take a few self-defense classes (balls and eyes ladies, balls and eyes). OCEA might install a few fire extinguishers. But the time spent daily on these worrie-pfft.
There are also the immediate fears. Bees, spiders, heights, forgetting to lock a door, me dating a friend, etc. Stuff that causes an innate "ugh-ouh!" reaction. We usually have little time to be ready, and one thing that freaks one person out might not bother another. No one wants to get into a car wreck (except in that "Crash" movie-not the one that just came out, but the one from the 90's where these people had a crashing cars sex fetish...), but spiders terrify some people and some love them.
There are also Social fears, which is why I don't get laid as much as I used to. What will people say, what will people think...that shit. Personally, my social anxiety is usually related to wither or not I zipped up my pants after using the bathroom. I'm not socially confident, just inept.
The one fear that I wanted to write about is subconscious fear. Some people call it the fear of change. It's what keeps us from moving, or trying new things, or meeting new friends, or even just to examine ourselves. In my opinion, just about everything comes from this fear.
Don't get me wrong; a lot of good comes from this fear. Cities were created by this fear. Relationships grew from this. Fear of thinking about the soul led to giant leaps in faith and the birth of laws. The world is one hell of a brighter place due to fear. We've made one hell of an interesting cage.
This fear is a great thing for making and shaping- and no one really pays attention to it at all, or gives it any credit. How funny would it be if "I did it out of love" became "I did it out of fear"? The possibility of change is so threatening that we do mad things just to prevent possibilities. Personally I'm waiting for the great butterfly massacre after too many people read some chaos theory books....
I'm not preaching chaos, just to be clear. Or saying that the world we created sucks. Or that everyone should quit their jobs, grow dreads and wander like vagabonds. I am trying to say that this fear is and always will be there. Get to know it-you can touch it and your palms won't get hairy, trust me.
We don't pay enough attention to this fear. Unchecked, it goes a little overboard. We end up trying to build castles of words, chain love up, put blinders on for fear of looking at what other things may exist. It can help make us happy (we all want to feel safe someway) and drive everything we love away at the same time.
Just realize that fear is their. Me, I spend time with my subconscious fear when I can. We like watching Zombie movies together, but the bastard gets a little fresh...

Probably because you DID put random in the tittle +1, otherwise it'd been -1 cos at least it wasn't just thoughtless drivel.

Chaddle the Was Once he woke once before
but alas it was just that once,
It was to was have hadhadhad, had been no more.
He broke custom twice when twitched he
he twitched
he twee? He twee!
wee twee be three the twitches thrice perceived. Gee.
So sunsets over his bed be the wasted
until when he was cremated.
