Sometimes they get too close.

Two people become such a part of each other that they don't see each other anymore. They can barely see themselves. All that is seen are the unwashed dishes, the dirty floors, the imagined slights and lack of courtesy.

At that point each person begins to feel invisible. The invisibility causes panic and each of them fights to be noticed by the other. Then come the arguments, shouting and hurt feeling that cannot be repaired.

Neither one understands the other anymore. How can you understand something when you can't even see it clearly enough to realize that it's there, right in front of you? And so they forget what brought them together in the first place.

They lose understanding, they lose patience, they lose sight, and then they lose everything.

Maybe they lose everything purposely, in an effort to see clearly again and recognize themselves. They have become so lost in each other that they have lost themselves.

Her pain and disappointment causes him anger and confusion. His anger and confusion causes her fear and more pain with which she builds high, unbreakable walls. He cannot breach her walls. She cannot make him understand.

And so they go in circles.

They dance.

And so you give each other a couple of days of space and then work through a bottle of bourbon together. It passes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let's_Dance

Words and music by David Bowie.

Lyrics
Let's dance, put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let's dance, to the song they're playin' on the radio

Let's sway, while colour lights up your face
Let's sway, sway through the crowd to an empty space

If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower

Let's dance, for fear your grace should fall
Let's dance, for fear tonight is all

Let's sway, you could look into my eyes
Let's sway, under the moonlight, this serious moonlight

If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower

Let's dance, put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let's dance, to the song they're playin' on the radio

Let's sway, you could look into my eyes
Let's sway, under the moonlight, this serious moonlight

NOW, you owe me a hummer.

Apparently so. And you have to explain that one in a bit more detail.

this bit reminded me of this story i read in the new yorker by nabikov, i think. a guy was trying to explain to a mythological, angelic creature all the problems with the world, but he could only come up with trivial things, like how the mirror in his room reflected a dirty floor. good story. "the word." anyway, i liked this, though it was extremely short. nice artwork.
