He walked among the ruins of the city, letting the rubble dictate his path. Bombs still exploded off to the east but they were of no concern to him. He wanted to see what remained in the devastation, if anything. It seemed most of the civilians had been shuffled out long before the full might of the war had come crashing into their homes, but every now and again he came across a stray body.

Like now, in front of him was the mangled form of a young boy. An old rifle was still clutched in the hand. The child was in his early teens, but had worn clothes far too large for his small frame. The roof from the market, it would seem he had been hiding under, had collapsed on him, crushing his lower torso.

The man stood there and stared at the boy for a few minutes, a far away look in his eyes. After a few moments he reached down and pried the gun from the child's death grip and flung it deep into the shattered market. He nodded to himself and continued.

His wandering lead him to a crater where a larger bomb had exploded. Small fires still blazed around the perimeter and the stench of death wavered through the air. Somewhere among the heaps of stone and metal, more bodies were buried, slowly rotting away in the heat.

A shout range out behind him in Hebrew, the voice telling him to "halt." The man turned slowly to see a gaggle of tired soldiers staring at him in wonder, their guns aimed at him in shaky hands. There was not a spot of dirt or dust on his black suit, nor a scuff on his polished shoes. He was not of Israeli or Arabic background, as evident by his light blue eyes. He ran a palm across his pale, bald head and sighed.

The soldiers watched as the stranger slowly brought a single finger to his lips, a gesture for quiet. It was the last thing they remembered, as they all fell to the ground, asleep before they hit. They would not speak of it later.

He watched them in peaceful slumber for a few moments, then spoke a word never before heard by mortal men. Reality tore away, and a small window appeared. The image of another man peered out from behind, this stranger raising an eyebrow in anticipation.

"This world is on the brink of disaster. It is ready," said the pale man standing in the ruins of Gaza. "Prepare the Armada for invasion."

Nicely done, man.

This is what this comp is about.

A brief mental flutter, a few carefully chosen words and a little typing later, you have a very good post.

Nice job.

Homer: All right, Herb. I'll lend you the 2,000 bucks. But you have
to forgive me and treat me like a brother.

Herb: Nope.

Homer: All right, then, just give me the drinking bird.
