Jesus, it's fucking cold. I kind of like the clear nights though, where I can see the stars.
The generators died a long, long time ago. The power is out. I have only a few batteries. The food is mostly frozen. The fuel and the generators, too.
I've been alone for months. Living in a morgue. It seems like years. Years without light. Years with nobody to talk to, down here at the edge of the world.
I don't know what we got sick with, but they're dead. All of them.
Fucking Jimmy. That guy. He was sick in the head. He's dying, and he wants to watch "Dawn of the Dead". Gave me nightmares for weeks. I still can't go into the storage shed. I stacked them in there like firewood. Some of them, their eyes are still open. They're white. White like the rest of this place. They follow me if I go in there. I keep expecting one of them to grab me.
Never, ever, EVER look into a dead man's eyes. Dead anything, for that matter. There's something in them. It's cold, and dark, and hungry. It wants you.
I radioed for help, back when it first started. I tried again when the generators started to fail and freeze up. I don't know how to fix them. They told me it was too late. Too late in the year to send a rescue team. They probably think I'm dead by now. Wintering over isn't easy to begin with. Wintering over alone? Nobody's ever done it and lived.
I started this journal to try and keep me sane. I think its doing a good job. I think I'm making it.
The sun should come up any day now.

Nice, GC. I see you have good taste. :)
And I'm glad you aren't offended by the comparison; because I am a huge King fan, so really coming from me that is a big compliment.
Also, I know the story you are talking about..that guy who sat in the dimly lit room with shades over the windows, drinking beer and watching tv and the smell..ohhh that poor kid of his.
I need to buy "Cell". Still haven't checked it out and it's been out for months.

yes, I know Night Surf. its a nice short story. I own the book with that in there.. Night Shift.
I really enjoyed a lot of King's early stuff from the late 70's and 80's when he built his whole mythology and store of tales and flavor in his Maine/New England cycle.
I remember that story about the guy drinking a "weird tasting" beer and turning into a blob or something.

Okay the story it made me think of was "Night Surf", and it was in Night Shift (the book of short stories). Maybe you would like it?

On second thought they don't have all THAT much in common..more like the general feeling.

Very good. I liked it.
It reminds me of a certain Stephen King story, but I can't figure out which one. that will torture me until either I a}give up or b}figure it out.

This line:
"Never, ever, EVER look into a dead man's eyes. Dead anything, for that matter. There's something in them. It's cold, and dark, and hungry. It wants you."
gave me goose pimplies.
So do tits.
Maybe it was the imagery of stacked bodies in a shed immediately prior.
When I first saw this A.D.D. competition, I thought it would bring out some super shit. But I am pleasantly dissapointed.

I love shit like this. Reminds me of a journal entry you would find in a Resident Evil game, if that makes any sense.

How did you watch "Dawn of the Dead" with no power?
===========
Don't you think if you were alone in the dark for 6 fucking months, you might:
A. hallucinate
B. Start talking about things that did happen, as if they were happening right then, in an attempt to block out your present condition?
