It was the fourth day of the school year and I was already sick of the Calculus class I opted to take. Myself and about 15 others had been a year ahead of the rest of the grade in math. I didn't feel so smart.
"Fuck it." I remember saying as I signed up to take Calculus my senior year. I'd get college credits for it anyway. I took my seat and the class began. Mr. Amos droned on. I stared at the board, then at the window. There were some deer wandering around in the treeline about 150 feet away. Cool. Deer.
"And the answer would be...Mr. Parker!"
Shit. He called on me. I didn't understand any of this shit anyway. "Umm...Radical 5?" Snickers erupted. I turned to the nearest four-eye. "Isn't there a Star Trek marathon you should be watching right now?"
"Isn't there a girl you should be making out with right now?" He replied in a stuttery, nasal voice.
"Was that supposed to be an insult?"
"Well, you know what they say: 'Love is a vector field with zero divergence.'"
What the hell was that supposed to mean? Laughter broke out from all corners of the room. I gave them all a perplexed look and stood up. "Fuck this." I turned for the door, tossing my Calculus textbook over my shoulder as I walked out.
Fucking nerds.
