It's irrelevant that people with the cars are happier with them than people who bought a Lexus or BMW? I don't really see your point here, other than throwing names around. Plus, Hyundai has improved in safety ratings, quality, fuel efficiency, and cost. Korean cars are getting better. If you knew anything about the automotive industry, you'd know that.

The fact is that the few imports you do get are all WILDLY different to the versions available in other countries due to emissions and compliance regulations. Hell, if I bought the american equivalent model of my car, it would have about 30-40% less power than the JDM version that I currently own. But I guess you're too stupid

I have to laugh at the old "I hate any car not made in america" bit that a few people are expressing here.
American cars are:
a) Overweight (kinda like most americans).
b) CRAP when it comes to handling, they're all made to go in straight lines only.
c) PATHETICALLY old-fashioned in the technology stakes, christ, fuel injection and crumple-zones are still a fucking novelty to the american car industry!
The ONLY thing ANY american cars are good for is drag-racing, or racing around in circles, the drag racers do NO turning, and the rest have only managed to figure out how to turn in one direction.

Despite all the people down below in the comments who are ripping on Hyundais, I myself am a proud Hyundai owner and I can tell you based on my own experience that you made a good choice. I drive a 2001 Elantra. It gets fantastic gas mileage, it's fun to drive (5-speed manual transmission, and it goes FAST!), and after a year of ownership, I have not had one single problem with it.
Hyundais are good, serviceable cars, and your new one is very cute. It might not impress superficial label-whores, but hey - who cares?

For example, THIS particular model was styled after the Mitsubishi FTO, but the FTO (which isn't exactly the most beautiful car in the world anyway) still looks fuckloads better. Fucking Koreans cant come up with their own style. Seriously, pick ANY model of Hyundai and you'll be able to find another fairly popular car (that strangely enough came out BEFORE the respective model of Hyundai) that looks EXTREMELY similar. It's like they traced the blueprints of a cool car, and then added some really ugly bits.

To make up the average $4000 price difference on a hybrid, you would need to drive, on average, 18000 miles a year. Unless you do that, the hybrids are overpriced and the ROI is nothing.

Despite all the people down below in the comments who are ripping on Hyundais, I myself am a proud Hyundai owner and I can tell you based on my own experience that you made a good choice. I drive a 2001 Elantra. It gets fantastic gas mileage, it's fun to drive (5-speed manual transmission, and it goes FAST!), and after a year of ownership, I have not had one single problem with it.
Hyundais are good, serviceable cars, and your new one is very cute. It might not impress superficial label-whores, but hey - who cares?
