Why the war between Israel and Arabs is idiotic on "biblical" proportions (557 hits)

I'm not really a religious guy, I just read the Bible because its a cool book...either way, I dont hold anything near the religious beliefs of Christianity, Judiasm, or Islam. So I feel that I have a very non-biased view on the Bible itself. Just to get that out of the way.
This is a passage from the Bible in GENESIS 17:27 as taught/spoken by Abraham. If you dont want to read the whole thing I'll summarize it all after the actual text.
START OF REFRENCE
From Abraham Pleads for Sodom.
"Then the Lord said, 'the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as teh outcry that has reached me, If not, I will know.'
The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord. Then Abraham approached him and said :'Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing-=to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?'
The Lord said, 'If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.'
Then Abraham spoke up again: 'Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?'
'If I find forty-five there,' he said, 'I will not destroy it.'
Once again he spoke to him, 'What if only forty are found there?'
He said, 'For the sake of forty, I will not do it.'
Then he said, 'May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there.'
He answered, 'I will not do it if I find thirty there.'
Abraham said. 'Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?'
He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.'
When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home."

Basicaly, God, decided that these citys had sinners in them, so he was going to go destroy them. But Abraham stopped god and convinced him that whole citys shouldn't be destroyed if there are also innocents in those citys. In the end God destroyed them Raining fire down on them and smoldering everything in sight, but they were no innocents there anyways.
The whole war between Islam, Israel, and even Christians that has been going on for centurys has always involved innocents, we're always killing eachothers innocents, and even God didn't do that (even back in the old testament when he would destroy stuff all the time without a second thought about it). If we want to play God, and rain fire on other people wether it be in the form of bombs, artillery, rockets, missles, or tank rounds, we should atleast take this into account first. Abraham taught this lesson, and hes an important figure in Judiasm, Christianity, and hes even a very important prophet in Islam as seen in the Qur'an.
Just makes me realize how idiotic the whole thing is, If we can't learn a lesson from a figure in all our Religions, then there really is no hope.

Oh... and good job with this post.
People DO need to talk about this sort of stupidity... although the caustic fuckers around these parts need to act on their hyperactive need to shit on anything that they either have to think about or have decided THEY are bored with the topic.

I agree with Bubba, Sodom and Gomorrah is about homosexuality being a sin and it shows the heathens being smoten by the vengeful wrath of God.

I was in line at the bank yesterday watching CNN. The reports were flying around about Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Iraq, the US, Britain, the UN, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, everyone. A guy a couple places back says "We ought to get together and make the whole place a parking lot for a gas station. They've got to do something about these gas prices."
