No Mirrors
I fear mirrors.
It started when I was a child. I was clumsy and would break things easily. I think I was always in too much of a hurry.
What I didn't realise was that time wouldn't alter, it still ticked and tocked at the same pace whether I chased around or took my time.
But I'd want something or want to be somewhere and I would want .......no........need to have it or be there right away. It basically meant I broke an awful lot of things.
The first mirror I broke was expensive and it wasn't the tanning I got for breaking it that put me off, no it was the story my Mum told me about having seven years of bad luck. All these terrible things were going to happen to me.
After I broke my second (much smaller bathroom mirror) I'd calculated that I wasn't due any good luck until I was at least twenty. When you are six twenty might as well be a lifetime away.
Everything that happened to me during my early years I blamed on the mirrors, like the time when I fell off my bicycle and removed several teeth and plenty of skin it was because of the mirrors.
The fire I started in the yard of a neighbour that ruined his shed and cost a lot of money to put right was the mirror.
When I was caught masturbating to page three in a cupboard under the stairs, that also was the mirrors.
My life was already ruined but I couldn't change it.
Then as I started to grow and develop I was plainly ugly, my facial features were either wonky or spotty. I suffered from a lopsided walk and my eyes had dark bags underneath them.
Now I had two reasons to hate the mirrors.
One brought me bad luck and made me ugly, the second constantly reminded my of what the other had done to me.
I carried this fear and refusal to have a mirror of any description into my early twenties. Friends wouldn't comment when they visited (I doubt that they actually noticed to be honest, boys don't).
But it changed when I had my first girlfriend.
She'd noticed sure enough, she made a couple of casual comments early on I think to gauge my reaction. I'm sure when I reacted irrationally she must have wondered what she had got herself into.
Now she says I have to have at least one in the house. It serves a purpose apparently, but also I have to (if we are to be married) get over my phobia.
I can't help wonder though.... what if? I'm twenty three; I have had only three years without bad luck following me around like a shadow.
Why would I want to throw it all away just so that I can see how ugly I am every day?

You don't even have a mirror in the bathroom? I've never seen a bathroom withough a mirror.

the more I think about it the more this comment infuriates me.

The story had a beginning, a middle, an ending, and a point.
+2, and screw the naysayers.

The story actually flowed pretty good but I was expecting it to have more substance to it. It was entertaining though. It's good to see something short, sweet and o the point but it's also harder to pull off when it comes to a story.

Uhm, I've re read this story now that it's on uber and think it's a little weak. Never mind.
I'm going to try and write one 500 or less word story every couple of days.
Hello....? is anyone listening? Does anyone care?
